hey guys, im usually over on the 300zx forums. i dd an old maxima and my 300zx tt maybe 1-2 times per week on nice days. It is kinda a pain in the a** that I have always put up with because I love the car, but lately I just haven’t been enjoying it like I used it. So, I have been toying with the idea of downsizing to 1 car, and I have my sights set on a 2007 g35 sedan. I have a few questions…

1.) The AWD version… at constant throttle does it push with the rear wheels and transfer to the front with slippage, or is it visa versa?
2.) Does the AWD version come in a 6-speed option? I haven’t seen one.
3.) What are the major things I should be looking for if I check one out? i.e. is there a major tune up at 60k or anything along those lines?
4.) Would it be worth it to try and find the G35-Sport version? I have been reading that the ride quality is pretty stiff.
5.) How much will I be paying for one of these? I am looking for a clean 2007 with maybe 60k on the clock.
6.) What kind of gas mileage are you guys putting down?
7.) I am kind of set on the 2007 model, due to the body style refresh. 2008 would be fine, but I am not sure I want to pay the revised price point.
8.) How long are the clutches good for if I can find a 6 speed?
9.) Do all the “S” models come with a 6 speed?

Thanks for your input.

I'm on my original clutch and my gas mileage is about the same as I got with my 69 50hp VW beedle. (23-26mpg)

rear wheels
2.) Does the AWD version come in a 6-speed option? I haven’t seen one.
no

no major tune at 60K, plugs should be good til 100k. I did mine too early on my 05 and 04 and believe it was a waste.
4.) Would it be worth it to try and find the G35-Sport version? I have been reading that the ride quality is pretty stiff.
I didn't like the seats...weren't comphy to me, but others like them.
5.) How much will I be paying for one of these? I am looking for a clean 2007 with maybe 60k on the clock.
I see many more 08 G35X's around here (CLT NC).
THere is one with 47K for 19.9K
with 60K miles, would think you could get one for 18k
Check KBB
But, with all of the 08's I would try to find one of those that has been on the lot for a while and the dealer is wanting to get rid of.

6.) What kind of gas mileage are you guys putting down?
http://www.fueleconomy.gov has my 08 G35x at 17 city / 23 HW and 19 combined.
And, that's about right for ours. Recently on a HW trip we got 22.5 MPG.

7.) I am kind of set on the 2007 model, due to the body style refresh. 2008 would be fine, but I am not sure I want to pay the revised price point.
THe 2007 has issues with the trottle tip in...too stiff, then you push and get too much gas. The 2008 was MUCH better, but not as good as my 04 coupe, but not enough difference to not buy. Could not stand the 2007 throttle. Might be able to get it fixed at Infinity tho.

8.) How long are the clutches good for if I can find a 6 speed?
Telcoman's is a 06 and he drives like a little ole lady!! :chuckle: Correct me if I'm wrong, or you just don't post how foolish you drive like the rest of us!!! :gapteeth:
9.) Do all the “S” models come with a 6 speed?
no

I drive smart. Abuse costs lot of $$$$$$
There was a question on proper use of clutches on yesterday's Car Talk on NPR
You can probably catch the repeat later today on NPR channel 122 on Sirius XM

I personally Love the AWD setup on the G37x and G35x, its basically a RWR car until slip occurs. the torque split is 0/100 front/rear Up To 50/50 front/rear. Then the AWD system actually promotes some over steer if you stay on throttle through a curve up to a limit of course. (higher limit with VDC off) the AWD system also uses the ABS system to brake individual tires for left to right torque split. (you will notice faster brake wear on the rear brakes for AWD cars)

pulls you into the curve, pushes at top of curve, and then pulls you out of curve... I still havent got used to that sensation of the AWD system doing that. But i love it everytime i feel the push at top of curve.

ya it kills me though that it isn't available with the 6 speed! the system sounds awesome, but i really would doubt that I'd get it just because i like messing through the gears.

Yes, driving a '07 off the line is something you have to get used to. I just spent a week with the wife's '07 G35s and I still get it to jerk off the line at times.

The wife's is a fully loaded 2007 G35s, and I mean with every available option. The suspension may be a bit stiff but I have found it less stiff than the base G37x I've had as loaners. While some have complained about the seats I find the sport seats comfy and have no problem with them in either car. FWIW, I bought it in 2009 with 40k miles and paid under 22k for it (needed new tires and brakes....had all fluids changed too...)
