Duh (Weight to HP) Duh

Its more about Weight than HP.

You can have a 90 HP 1000 Pound car be better than a 300 HP Car that weighs 5000 Pounds.

You have ALOT TO LEARN.

140 is right for the Civic but try 210 for the J.

Actually, the J does have a better power/weight ratio but it's just not enuf to sling it down the road faster than the little Civic.

J:210 hp/3500 lbs = 0.06Civic:140 hp/2700 lbs = 0.052

Oh and I almost forgot, if you have 300 lbs of subs in the trunk to help keep the rear end even more planted to the road it would be no contest at all.
You mean like this J??
coolyun_98 wrote:I have to agree with kbflip because J's VG can really give out a lot of power at top end. Specially, I have updated JWT cams (i think kbflip has them too) and upgraded ECU from Jason. My J have had some very good win against Civics on the street. No offece to civic drivers , just the facts.
None taken...

True, the J has a stronger engine than my Civic. Another reason why I want one along w/it. But what really helps it is the i-VTEC & the transmission. Mine lasts from (I think) 4-6.5K RPMs & I have 5 gears to play with. BTW, how many gears does the Level 10 transmission have?

The way we race down here is more times often about the skill of the driver than about the mods. But I'm darn sure that a skilled driver & a well modded J can outrun my Civic. Facts. I've only been racing for 4 years, but I used to hang out @ the track every weekend. That's how I got my (limited) skill; practice, practice, practice.

Gr8Scott, I'd love to test drive your J. That will give me a better idea on what I want when I get mine.

BTW, yodawill2000 was right about the rolling start on the Js. I raced that same one in the pic in my old car ('94 Mercury Cougar w/3.8L V6) from a roll & I lost badly. I didn't have enough torque, plus the car weighed around 3,600 lbs; subs, amps & full interior. Talk about heavy!!!

The biggest perforamnce limitation is not the powertrain...it is the weight! VG has IRON block!

Which makes the J that much better.

Seriously, the VG30DE in the J/300ZX can handle around 75 shot of wet nitrous, right? & that's when it's stock. My Civic's R18A1 can only handle around 25 shot before I have to do forged pistons, new crankshaft, etc. My engine is quick for stock, but it's also made of aluminum. I push it too hard & BOOM. Since the block in the Js are made of iron, they can handle more abuse. From my study of the Js thus far, I rarely see or hear a case of a blown engine; just the transmissions. For the Civic, the engine goes before the transmission, mainly @ high boost levels from turbochargers & spraying too much nitrous.

Start thread jack=Naladude911, I want to race you on a drag strip. Too bad you live in New York. = End thread jack.

That's easy. Just post up some time slips. He will have the slight advantage being in the cooler weather.

Do the times have to be 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile? I only have 1/8 mile times since that's the closest track there is to my house (Mobile Dragway in Irvington, Alabama). The nearest 1/4 from here is in Gulfport, Mississippi.

As a matter of fact, I can get the 1/8 mile slips scanned & posted from the race I had w/the riced J30. Just need to fix the scanner.
