Hi guys,

Finally decided to open a topic about my trany rebuild. I originally wanted to start this project during winter (car stay in garage) but because of covid-19 restrictions, I managed to get started during April.

As FSM states, the gearbox of my car is FS5W71C. It also states that only the 2nd gear has a 3-piece synchro but following topic481833.html, I had really big doubts about what I my gearbox is made of, so I decided to tear it down to see by myself (also, I didn't wanted to purchase the wrong kit).

I looked online and found a temporary gearbox for replacement (the time I rebuild mine) so I bought it. Both gearboxes are marked "CA71B#1" on the bellhouse. I'm not sure what the "#1" means, some say it refers to shift when the gearbox has been built, not sure.
Anyway, I received the gearbox and managed to swap it with the one installed in the car for 31 years.

Then started to open the original gearbox, starting with the rear case. Look at this reverse idler gear !

Here the result with the bellhousing off.

Then, I simply followed video tutorials on youtube and found some really interesting docs (I'll post'em later). Except for a couple of tools I had to buy (puller, heat gun), the process is quite simple but requires time and attention. Make sure to take pics and make marks everywhere for reference.

Mainshaft and countershaft nuts are easy to drill where they where staked. I chose this way because replacement parts were available online.

During the whole process, I tried not to damage anything, and I managed to pull this badboy without using a grinder on the sleeve.

Finally, I reached my 2nd gear synchro, made of 3 pieces and all the other ones are only 1 piece, so in my case FSM was right.

I found the reference of the kit : DTS-BK133BWS. Ordered from ebay (this kit : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Transmission-B ... 2749.l2649) and everything that comes is a pefect match.

If you start doint this by yourself, note that the FSM schemas are incorrect (missing pieces + extra pieces). I also help myself with https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/ and https://www.amayama.com/en

I'm currently waiting for parts to come, I'll post everything I decided to replace, parts number and everything.

Forgot to mention but I already replaced bearings in adapter plate and the 62mm one (the one supporting the countershaft) has a gap in the adapter plate.
Does anyone know how to install properly ? Either fully against retainer plate or flat on the other side ? Cause it may move a bit when installing countershaft.
