Are there any pro's or con's for either mounting places for the turbos? Is one better than the other, or does it not matter?

more room on top of manifold, than buried underneath.

accesability. also sometimes you can fit the turbo under the manifold and between the motor and shock tower.

i heard having the turbo higher helps the oil drain/flow

Yes it does. But as long as you keep your oil outlet above the bung on your oil pan (or whatever method you use) you won't have any issues.

there aren't too many turbos that would fit very well under the manifold...

depends on the manifold. I pretty sure I could have gotten mine (T3/T4) bottom mounted. But then the piping would have been a pain in the ***

The bottome mount is a ggod design if you want to keep heat away from A) your hood(paint or carbon fiber can suffer after long periods of boosting. B) brake master cylinder-I cannot stress enough how important this is. Some folk get the jgs manifold...great design, I have one, and use it top mount, but dont consider that if it is too far back or even in the middle of the manifold up top, then its too close for comfort. Ive seen guys who do this, and then try to heat wrap everything, and ceramic coating the turbo and downpipe, thinking that it will keep the heat down enough. It helps to do these things, but sometimes it just isnt enough, especially for extended periods under boost. Master sylinders melt, folks...and its ugly when they do. I use a top mount, but have taken may precautions to keep it from happening. For a basic kit, I would use a rev-hard. They arent as bad as people say. The newer gen mani's, are much better. I would still cut between the flanges, and open the bolt holes up a bit for heat expansion, that will help with cracking isssues. Plus, they direct the heat towards the bottom of the cars, and with the car moving, it gets swept under and out. PLus the downpipe isnt as long, so less pain to route the DP.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks

Also, what if you made a heat shield to protect the BMC. Like make it out of aluminum, or use this stuff I saw that Twins Turbo makes. It looks pretty damn cool, I just gotta find it

Yeah, it will help keep it away, but not totally. Plus, youll still have to worry about everything else--like your hood paint. Im not trying to discourage you, I use a top mount. But I was very careful with mine...i mounted it forward toward runner number 1. Also, i had mine ceramic coated, and then used atp heat wrap with like 4000 deg tolernace or something along those lines....plus a heat sheild, and heat wrap on alot of stuff...DP, BMC, Power steering resevior, etc....

not many sizes available, but should be more soon. This would help alot, but I was thinking of wrapping the BMC with this stuff too

^^not great pics, but you should get the idea for the BMC heat shiled

This is what I did, no problem in 2-3 months now. I even had a big exhaust leak into the engine bay (between turbo and downpipe and wastegate and downpipe) and when I'm saying big it's BIG and no issues melting anything.

I bought the kit from Summit

Twins turbo doesnt make that, they sell it. I have the number to call them directly. Maybe you could save some money by sutting out the middle man? Send me a [email protected]and ill give you the number. Thats what klatter used on his setup...you can actually put your hand on it when the turbo is hot and not burn yourself......its wild.
