I did search

Just collecting all tools needed so I can start my rebuild. I've seen the tools in the FSM, but which ones do you need and is necessary? Also what would be some tools that you would want to have handy? (ie-timing gun)

Here's my growing list:Torque wrench's 1/2 inchTiming guncherry pickerengine standcompression tester

impact, breaker bar, jack stands, jack, a good socket set, wrench set, rubber mallet, screw driver set.

You could also use a pulley puller but you can just rent that from autozone when you need it.

Also a lift is a very nice tool to have

Ring compressorRubber mallet or wooden handled hammer (use the wood handle to push things in and out of the cylinders without scratching them up)Impact gun and impact socketsSome kind of oribtal air tool that can hold 3" 3M cleaning discs.Razor blades (the sharper and fresher the better)Allen tipped sockets (you'll understand why when you try to remove the headbolts)

zerothread/309576 Here's my rough draft copy for the Motor Rebuild DIY I'm working on. I don't have any of my pictures uploaded yet, so it's just plain old boring text right now. I'll do some picture formatting tonight when I get home and start fleshing things out, as well as put in a more complete list of needed tools.

So I NEED an impact wrench? Cause I don't have an air compressor, but wanted one anyway to make life easier.

I just get my room mate for that. He's almost 300lbs solid muscle, just don't let him tighten anything!

Nah, but ok I should get that as well then.

You don't really need one, it's a luxury I hate living without when it comes to removing main bolts and head bolts. You're roommate should do fine since I've pulled a motor apart with no air tools before (and I'm a weak 180 lbs). I hated myself afterwards, but it's doable

Air compressor and air tools it is then. Don't want to hurt or break the 300lb tool that lives in the house with me.

Get a Beam type torque wrench, the clicking ones can go out of calibration after a while.
