I recently purchased an 08 G35x with 40K miles and a brand new set of Hankook tires fitted by the dealer. Its a great car but there is one annoying trait and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed something similar. At lower speeds - anywhere from 20 - 60 mph - certain bumps or road surfaces incite what sounds like a tuning fork rining sound. The sound does not change pitch with speed and comes from the front end. On newly paved smooth asphalt the sound resonates most at about 50 mph. The frequency (tone) of the sound is the same as what I hear over rougher pavement at lower speeds. Above 60 I don't notice any odd sounds. When I tap on the front of the tire I hear the same tone. So I'm trying to figure out if its a characterisitc of the tires or the car.

Welcome to NICO! I've never experienced any resonating tone from my tires, new or used. I'd have the tires re-balanced and asked them if they notice any unusual noises during the process.

I had an issue like this with my wife's 2003 G. It turned out to be a front wheel bearing. Jack the front tires off the ground and see if they spin without much effort. My LF was almost too hard to turn by hand. I think this happened at about 55k miles

Thanks for the input. I just took the car in for an oil change and mentioned the tire noise. The dealer gave me a loaner for the day which was a brand new G25x. I heard the same type of impact ringing in that car so it's obviously a characteristic of the car. I must not have been paying attention in my test drives. I knew it was not a wheel bearing because I've had a couple of Audi A4's which go through wheel bearings like kids go through socks. Anyway - at least I know it's not something strange with the Hankook tires.

I have an 08 G35X and do not have that noise, so I don't believe it's a problem with the year/brand/model that you have.
However, I do have loud tires due to what was on there when I purchased it used. (Goodrich Traction TA)
I've researched my brand/model tire and they get louder with miles, so I either have to buy new or turn up the radio. :gapteeth:
I would replace them, but they have proven to be very good A/S tires!
