get a gasket set from nissan if you can, worth the extra for all the gaskets you get.

Things to do to the short block:

- Have the crank checked for balance and bearing surface roundness. Have it turned if necessary. Mike (measure with a micrometer) the block and rod bearing surfaces and the associated crank surfaces and get the appropriately sized bearings.

- Check the cylinder linings for any vertical scoring. Ideally the factory crosshatch should be visible. If you're bringing the block to a shop for hot tanking or whatever else it may be worthwhile to have them align hone the cylinders while its there. If you don't bring the block in, make sure that post-dissasembly you keep a film of oil on the cylinder linings so they don't rust. Make sure you use something hydrophobic.

- Make sure all the oil squirters are still in place.

- Pull the freeze plugs and oil passage plugs and clean the inevitable gunk out. Make sure you dry the block entirely afterwards; compressed air is a good idea. Refit with new plugs.

This is all general stuff so there's probably some CA-specific details I've missed.
