Does anyone know the window tint percentages that come on the SL? I am mainly curious if there is any tint on the front windows at all. I am in Virginia and they are pretty strict on tint laws.

On SL models, the front driver & passenger windows have no tint. Instead they have a UV reducing solar glass that is clear.

Thank you! That helps my decision. I am going to tint the fronts to 50% which is the max tint allowed in our state for front windows.

The dealer installed tint on my driver & passenger side front windows that closely matches the rear windows. Not sure what my tint percentage is though.

I have a couple friends in the local Police Department. I may have to see if they carry a light meter and get them to put it on my windows to make sure. If I manage to get it checked by one of them I will post the results for everyone.

I'm in MD. I got 18% and it matches almost exact. The only thing is with the coating the dealer puts on it makes it alittle darker. Cops in MD aren't as strict on tint as they are in VA. VA cops SUCK!

I tinted the same way except I got 20%. I also tinted the stripe on the top of the windshield. NY cops are very strict about tint too but I don't really care. I found out as long as you don't attract the cops by listening music loud or having big expensive rims etc. they most likely wont pull you over. Too many people in NY state have tinted windows even that this is illegal here.

I am not sure how is up there but in Brooklyn it not that easy I tinted windows on my Maxima and 3 days after my dad asked me to give him car and he got 2 tickets for each window $ 150 each he was not listening to loud music and I did not had any large rims just stock rims but car is black and you can really notice windows because it looks very dark any way back to the story I went to DMV and I asked for court hearing but they denied they said this kind of ticket is undisputable unlike any other equipment tickets like burned lights so I ended up paying $ 300

Wow, if the tint on the front windows is close to the rear that would be extremely dark. The tint on the SL's is quite dark.

I tinted my front windows 35%, not near as dark as the rear windows but a nice contrast. The City cops don't bother with handing out tickets for tinted windows but the RCMP, well that's a different story.

Cops don't care much about tint on suv unless it is limo style 5%. I talked to one cop yesterday. If you don't pass on a red light or if you speeding most likely you won't get pull over for the tint. But you will get a ticket for the tint if the cop pull you over for something else. SUVs have a different law about tint. 20% at the front matching perfectly the rear tint. Well...it is probably depends on a cop, too.

Most, if not all OEM tinted glass matches 20% film. Meaning, 20% of the light is let through. However it is not film, it is in the glass. Just about every state has different tint laws. I would suggest researching your specific state to find what is "ok". Here in PA, there really isn't a specific "tint law". I have 10% on my car all around. My wifes Rogue as 20% on the front doors to match the rest of the OEM windows. My truck has 5% on the back doors and back window and 15% on the front doors.

If you're talking about the factory tint, it is made when they manufacture the glass. If you're talking about getting your windows tinted after market, some dealerships will do it, some will refer you to a specialty tint shop.

The Rogue back and rear windows are 20%. Unfortunately Virginia is one of the tougher states and requires 50% light transmission. If I lived in a state with 50% tint limits I'd probably push my luck and get 35% installed. It will be closer to the tint of the back windows and you might just get away with it.

Yep... Some states are lax... where others are strictly enforced.

In truth, its a rare exception for in any state for a cop to pull someone over for window tinting. In reality... its not the cops nab you... but your annual auto inspection!

Inspection stations use a light meter to measure the light transmission of your window film. If its too dark (by tint laws in that state) then your auto will fail inspection until the film is removed.

I really wanted 20% installed so the front windows would match the back but I live in North Carolina which limits its films to 35%. Rather than risk the expense of installing dark film... only to remove it when I fail inspection... I just told my installer to apply the darkest tint the law would allow. Its not as dark...but not that far off either. I'll try and post some pictures later today.

Wondering what the Tint Laws are where you live? Here's a link that provides tint laws by state.

SenorPayne7 posted a photo of his Rogue with 20% tint in front to match the back. Here are two pics of my Rogue with 35% film in the front so you can see how it compares to the 20% factory tint in the back.

Thanks!... The tint was just a quick... (say, while you're at it) kind of request.... it almost didn't happen. I was having the front wrapped in VentureShield. (Clear Bra). During the install I was making small talk with the installer and he mentioned he actually installs more window tint than bras and the next think I knew I had tinted windows. Glad I did it. Only cost me $50 for the two front windows.

To tell you the truth I had a heck of a time selecting the Rogues color. The first Rogue I ever saw in person was Iridium Graphite and I was sold on the color. That's what I wanted. Nice and classy. But... when I got the to dealers for my first test drive I got my first look at Gotham Gray. Sharp! Hmmm... now I was confused. Actually the first time I saw Artic White was at night under the low pressure sodium lamps of the dealer parking lot and I did not like it at all. Looked like French Vanilla ice cream. However the next day in the sunlight my wife fell in love with it. She said it sparkled like freshly fallen snow. And the rest is history.

I got my front windows tinted to match the back last week. It looks pretty sweet with my black Rogue. I'll try to get a pic of it this weekend if it is sunny enough. My car is dirty as crap so it wont look as good. I had 15% on my Mazda Mx-6 before I traded it in and never got pulled over. I hope I continue to get this lucky.

I had 30% put on mine - it is very close to the tint darkness of the rear glass.

I have a buddy who works at a tinting place - we measured the transmittance. 26% front 27% rear

The first thing I had done when I bought my Rogue was have the front windows tinted. Like most people here I got 20%. Matches the rear windows pretty close. No issues at all.

I believe the legal limit for front windows tinting in Canada is 35%, but 95% of the time you can get away with 20%

50%!

Any suggestions? I mean What the hell does 50% even look like? Is it even Darkened?

Thanks

I think he implied how it would look on a vehicle. I too didn't know there was so many variations until I went to the local tint shop. They would be the best people to handle the job and should know your local laws.

Sure it does. It's all relative. Compared to untinted glass it's darkened (IIRC 50% means that it allows 50% of light through). Compared to limo tint it probably won't look darkened.
