Car is a 2014 Nissan Versa SV. The mileage is low like less than 5000 because it doesn't get driven much. At the last oil change, the mechanic indicated that the timing cover is leaking in the front and back. He indicated that it would probably be covered by the drive train warranty so to contact Nissan.

I asked the mechanic how this could have happen to a car with this low mileage. He indicated that the low mileage may be the reason why. He thought may be because the car doesn't get driven enough, so the oil may not get circulate enough to lubricate all of the parts, which may have contributed to the wear. Can this be true? What's your opinion.

Check the cover yourself. Do you think it is leaking? Is it a leak or just oil/other fluid that spilled from a previous oil change?

You can purchase a cheap ultraviolet leak detector kit from autozone and be sure it is leaking and from where exactly. The only part that would cause you to leak from your timing cover would be the gasket/ rtv that seals that joint. It is possible that the way you stored your car for the last four years has deteriorated the gasket material, but I don't think it is too likely.

As someone currently driving a leaking honda accord, unless there are oil drips on the floor under the car, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Just a follow-up, the dealer covered it as part of the power train warranty. It would be an expensive repair otherwise.
