Well my 97 w/ 140k started rattling all the time. used to be just for a couple seconds at start up. I've seen alot of info on the web and I'm thinking of doing this job myself. Does any one have any pointers or things I should watch out for ? Also, where is a good place to buy the parts ? I'm deffinitly going all OEM.

Welcome to NICO!

Nice sig BTW, I lol'd.

Anyway, glad to hear you are going OEM. That's the only way to go on this job I feel. Watch out for hidden bolts like the one behind the oil pump. Also get as many related parts as possible. Since you will have the front torn down quite a bit think of replacing things like water pump, t-stat and coolant and any little seals or o-rings you come across. Things like that. No need to force anything. Use a breaker bar to bust the crank pulley loose. Have some pullers handy too JIC. Hope it goes well for you.

Cheapest dealer I know of is courtesy nissan in texas, they beat my dealer and get parts to me faster via ups than my local dealer can get parts that are not in stock. And they stock very little for the older hardbodies. search online for courtesynissanparts. Great place and tell them you came from here and twinturbo.net they give guys a discount for that.

Thanks for the welcome. So I got bored and pulled the Valve Cover expecting to see a loose a** chain. To my surprise it was tight I was able to push the tensioner side guide in with a screwdriver. It had good tension and pushed back into place. The driver's side guide was missing the plastic rail but since it's a 97 it still had the metal backing piece in place. So the rattling is from the chain riding on the bare metal guide. How much damage could that do ? I'm thinking not much other than rattling. What do you guys think ? I'm tinking just to let it be.

I replaced the chain and guides in my 2.4 last Dec.The chain was a-ok but the nylon guides gave up the ghost. They were in pieces in the pan.

Since yours is a '90 , it didn't even have the metal back piece did it ?
