I started my car today and let it idle for a few minutes and then revved it a bit maybe up to 3k-3.5k and then I got out to listen to my engine to see if I heard any noises (I do this like twice a week or so). I heard the infamous marble in a bottle/can sound. I know this means my timing chain guides need to be removed but does this need to be done immediatly or can it be put off for a while? The engine will probably be swapped out for something else turbo but in the mean time I will probably put between 5k-10k miles on it. I've Searched and I haven't found any decisive answers on how long you can drive with it? What I've gotten so far is that you can drive with it but it's just annoying as heck. BTW I have a 1991 KA24DE with about 180K miles

i would take out the guides if you dont want to hear the rattling noise every time you start up. if you leave it in there, then the guides will eventually break apart and end up in your oil pan. nothing would happen if you take them out.

I know that taking them out doesn't really effect anything because they were found unnecessary by nissan but I don reall want to have do all of the work to get it out right now. I just want to know if I can get away with leaving them in for a while or at least til it gets warmer.

if you want to leave it in there, then leave it in there. it will eventually stop all together. it took mines about a month to stop
