timing belt problems

i have a 95 pathfinder that i am having troubles with regarding the timing belt. when i line up the marks on the belt with the marks on the cam gears and crank gear, i rotate the belt for three revolutions and the belt marks are always one tooth off, any thoughts ,ideas would be greatly appreciated

It's the uneven number of teeth between the cams. I cannot find the specific count but being off one tooth after three revolutions should not be an issue as long as you verify #1 is on Top Dead Center and the cam marks line up on the correct stroke.

line up the marks on the belt with the marks on the sprokets , thats it dont turn the engine over or worry about it after that the marks will never line up again. the odds of the marks lining up again are huge....dont worry about it but it on and start it up for a second or so if your scared it will be ok..good luck and make sure you tighten everything up

The belt marks are only there for ease of installation. Bottom line is the crank and cam marks must hit a reference spot on the motor the same time every time. The belt marks are just a quick reference tool.
