Ok, I am under the car at first and you can hear a prominent knock-knock-knock-knock type sound. Then I go along the top near each cylinder and I think that's the valves or something and it probably sounds normal since they all seem the same. It's that knocking sound that worries me.

I wish I recorded the sound of it before since my memory is fuzzy and I can't really pull up any memory of how it sounded.

What do you guys think?

Edit: The video is encoded with xvid. I guess I could put it on youtube or encode it with divx or something else if peeps have an issue with viewing it.

Had the engine been sitting a while unstarted? Trying adding about half a quart of good synthetic oil, as it will quiet a sticky lifter and consider switching to all synthetic if you aren't already using it.

I started the timing job saturday am...and I just cranked it up about 5 minutes before I recorded the video which was tonight at about 9pm.

The sticky lifter issue is the ticking sound when i'm moving the camera at the top of the engine or the knocking sound that is more prominent at the beginning when I'm under it?

I wasn't able to play the file.

I parked my J30 for a while waiting to change a leaky water pump and the timing belt, starting it maybe once a week. I wasn't long before I was more concerned about a VERY loud tapping noise, than I was about the leaky water pump and timing belt. Adding half a quart of sythetic oil took care of it and the next oil change I switched to all synthetic. I think my mileage improved a bit too.
