Hello everyone, so I think its time to get rid of the stock turbos and upgrade. My intentions for my car is to be a fun street car but I'm primarily building it to drift. That being said I'm not looking into big turbos with a lot of lag to get ultimate power. My power goal is to hopefully get to around or at least be capable of 450~500 whp. I'm looking into something that spools quick to hold a nice long power band.
I currently have a Single Pop charger, Z1 SMIC, Socketed and chipped ecu, and I have Nismo 615cc injectors in my tool box (I need the early style adapter kit but I'm in no rush with stock turbos) and have full intentions of running 3 inch down pipes and 3 inch full exhaust with AMS Manifolds. I plan to upgrade to a dual MAF intake and possibly 2.5 inch IC piping (if itll still benefit my Z1 smic). I'm hoping to run STOCK INTERNALS for as long as I can!

These are the kits I'm looking at:
Z1 GT535R (GT2554R) BB Kit https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-produc ... -3084.html

Z1 GT555R (GT2854R) BB Kit https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-produc ... -3862.html

Z1 GT600R (GT28R) BB Kit https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-produc ... -1451.html

My primary concern is lag so technically yes I should get the small turbo but I want to make sure I can achieve my power goals on pump gas without have to run excessive boost. I've been trying to research and read all I can off the forums but I can't get any solid information on which turbo would be the most suitable! Please help!

I've never experienced this lag people talk about to date. The only time I see this being a problem is if you put two t4 flanged monster snails on a 4cylinder. Trust me you wont even notice the difference between them all except the small one will run out of juice.

so the GT535 will insignificantly boost faster than say the GT600? My power levels would be more easily achieved with the bigger turbo and very little difference in price. I feel like there must be a difference in initial spool and peak spool RPM's

If you really want to know what the difference would be ask around see if you can drive or just ride in a few cars with similar motors but different turbo set ups. Doesnt have to be a Z maybe you have two buddies with boosted hondas or sr20 powered cars. Ride in two with different sized turbos similar set ups. I doubt you'll notice a difference at all in "initial spool". You will notice the peak spool because the car will stop pulling if the turbo is small.

Pick up corky bells book maximum boost. It will change your life. You can get a used copy on amazon cheap.

Its a good read and reference book. Helped me out a bunch on where to spend time and where to not waste time. Things like intercooler piping diameter and frontal intercooler area. I was way off from what I though was required or ideal.
