throttle position sensor porblems????

my buddy has a maxima with a 3.0l i think its a 98 or 99, when he hits the gas in neutral and lets of the rpms will drop to 500 or less and sometimes it will stall....... i dont know anything about nissan v6's his mechanic told him that it was his tps what do you guys thin has anyone had a similar problem?? thanks

Could be due to a dirty throttle body.Here are a couple of links to help if this is the case.

I had a similair provblem on my 5th Gen and it cleared it up.
