The throttle controller is an electronic device that connects in 2 places: the OBDII port and the accelerator pedal. Since the accelerator is throttle by wire, the pedal sends electronic instructions to the engine's computer to open the throttle.

The controller puts itself in a circuit between the physical pedal and the electronic throttle instructions. The idea is that the throttle controller will do a better job of managing the throttle than the stock programming.

This controller has 3 modes: normal, economy, and speed. In normal mode, the throttle responds just like stock, though there may be some programming in there to "normalize" your foot input. Feet tend to be a little clumsy, so the throttle controller helps to minimize unintended spikes.

In economy mode, the amount of throttle is decreased when the accelerator pedal is pushed. There are 7 economy settings, 1 is closer to stock and 7 is pretty extreme. Economy mode basically makes the car behave as if it had no balls, which is what you want to save gas. You can still mash the pedal when you need to, but for general driving, the economy mode helps to keep your right foot in check to save gas.

Speed mode is pretty fun. I haven't used all of the settings yet, just 7 which is the most extreme. A small blip on the throttle opens the throttle pretty wide compared to stock, so in speed mode, throttle response is quick and ballsy.

I've only had this thing on for a couple weeks and it's a fun toy. Don't expect miracles from it, but if you're after fuel economy this thing will help in that regard. I don't know whether it will pay for itself in gas, but I'm happy with it. Since I'm in California, there's not much I can do with the engine but the throttle controller is one thing that does make a difference.

vtyde,

You took the words out of my mouth. I bought this thing a couple weeks ago, and was able to put it in last week... Man is this fun! In speed mode, you can definitely feel the car act different, definitely has a lot more balls... in Speed-9, if you just touch the gas pedal you go pretty much full throttle; and while it may not make the car necessarily faster, definitely more responsive and fun to drive. On the other hand, I have been doing exactly what you are; driving in Eco-4. It makes such a difference; definitely dulls down the throttle, but I can defiantly see a difference in what amount of gas I use on 45 minute trips I take a lot.

Well worth the money!

Now I have found 3 TC for the versa, blitz, ntd, and this weapon-r.

http://www.proimporttuners.com/parts/20 ... gn=product

now is there any difference between them besides how they look and maybe the different modes?

I'm probably going to get the ntd one just because i like it better...if i was more of a baller i would probably get the blitz. anyone ever heard of this weapon-r one?

and bob from versaspeed. how about hooking it up with some free shipping :] or could i swing by and pick it up?

Just finished installing my throttle controller. and just wanted to comment on it. I dont know what all the hype was about with speed mode...and i got 9 of them...doesnt feel anything like nos or turbo. infact i didnt feel an increase in speed at all. I could have driving just as fast by flooring it.

But thats not the reason why i got the TC. I am very impressed with the ECO mode. Constricts me very well..even tho i can still floor it and get almost the same affect, but it does help when the peddle is pressed down at like 35-50%.

again not impressed with the speed settings. I might use it just for demonstration for friends but the eco mode was very impressive.

kinda sucks cause i was expecting alittle something from speed 9..but no.

I also thought the numbers on the TC were showing how much throttle i was using...but it just displays how far down ur pressing the gas pedal.

I want to take off that black foam stuff on the bottom off the pedal so i can get that extra inch and a half...but im not sure if it would do anything.

The reason why it doesn't feel like nitrous or turbo is because it feels like V-teeeeeec :bigthumb:

And about moving the black foam stuff, wouldn't make a darn difference. Your throttle body is on a 0-100% scale. It cannot give you 110% by removing the foam. :slap:

Is your Versa a manual transmission?
Also I was wondering the increase of power you gained from stock?

Throttle controller does not increase power. It simply manages the throttle based on whatever mode it's in (economy = restrictive throttle; speed = open it up). I have a manual transmission.

Anyone have tips on unplugging the throttle for installation? I see it and I try to remove it, but squeezing that tab is tough. Do I need to use pliers or something?

its hard, but you shouldn't really need to use pliers.

This part certainly sounds appealing. Have any of you tried it out on the A/T? Thanks for the updates on gas milage and the realistic review of the product. I have yet to decide if this will join my list of wants, but would love to see how it is installed with some pics, as I'm no mechanic.

guys i think you have something slightly skewed. a TC will NOT increase power.
it simply makes your computer oblivious to the signals your pedal sensor is sending out.
and inplace, listens to the signals your throttle control is sending. to make things easier, the throttle control either multiplies or divids any signal your pedal is sending by half - and that depends on the map.

if you put your TC in eco, and hit the gas pedal to the floor: your pedal will be sending out 100% throttle response. the ECO map in your new TC, basically is designed to take the 100% that your pedal is sensing from your foot, and cut it in half (lets just use numbers and factions as estimates) since idk the exact measurement to truly speak.
this way your engines responds only to as if you would have pressed your car to 50% throttle, so your technically not flooring the car, and making it burn more gas. YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF WITHOUT THE NEED OF A THROTTLE CONTROLER, BY SIMPLY NOT FLOORING YOUR CAR. AND USING ONLY 0%-50% PEDAL TRAVEL IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE "ECO MODE" MAP THAT YOU DESIRE.

now lets say you put it on the most powerful SP mode/map: and you touch the gas pedal at say maybe only 10%. your pedal will be sending out the 10%, but it will be blocked by this throttle controller that will be INSTEAD sending 80% signal to your engine. SO YOUR CAR REACTS TO THE 80% THAT ITS BEING TOLD THE DRIVER IS PRESSING THE PEDAL DOWN TOO(even tho your you didnt press the 80%, the TC lied to your engine). so you think to yourself "WOW! a tiny bit of gas, and look how much power my car now has!". But in fact you could have achieved this same amount of power, simply by slamming your foot on the gas pedal to the floor.

this throttle controller is nothing more than a trick to your car. its sending out wrong, signals in order to manipulate the engines response. so your not getting any more power, than you already had. you didnt 'unlock' any hidden potential in the car. this is a common practice for bike racers to shorten the cable by which the throttle works on. the result is a shorter twist rate of your wrist, to get to the WIDE OPEN THROTTLE stage faster. the first time, riders get back on their race bikes, they are kinda tricked, that the usual throttle twist, now equals MORE ENGINE RESPONSE. but its not power. its just a new, faster response. (bikes still use cables, while cars now use electron "drive by wire" systemes. but the result is the same.)

you can give yourself the same results for free, as this throttle control gives you by doing this:
eco mode: gently press the pedal down no more than 35% of its total travel distance.
normal mode: from 0% pedal travel - quickly press the gas pedal down to 75%
sport mode: from 0% pedal travel - quickly press the gas pedal down to 100%

if you wanted to unlock power, or make the engine actually make more power, it would need to be either re-tuned, or have a computer piggy-backed to the car- the will control the fuel injectors. my race-bike has this. its called a Dynojet PowerCommander. runs a little over $300 and it gets directly installed to your fuel injectors, and throttle control sensor. and what happens, is it basically re-organizes your air/fuel ratio, ignition setting, etc and makes your fuel injectors squirt more fuel depending on the MAP you choose. It allows a full range of fuel adjustment, as much as +/- 100% over stock.
