I recently lost the ability to edit my posts. Found this and tried it, but it did not work for me.

Help, please.
What web browser are you using? Have you tried a different one? Is your system up-to-date? Did you try to do a system restore to a point before the problem began?

Doesn't matter if I'm on my tablet with my mobile browser or my laptop with Firefox. Both hardware and software are up to date. I'll try Chrome on the tablet and IE on the laptop.

No change. I tried Chrome on my tablet and I'm on IE right now on my laptop.

I did notice on my last few recent posts, there was an "edit" button. However the next time I came back to it, there was no edit button. The "quote" button is everywhere, so that's not an issue.

Very odd. I've never had this problem before until just recently. I always edit posts and I've done so on multiple devices on multiple platforms and on multiple connections. All of a sudden, I can't edit my posts anywhere (except my most recent post for a limited time.)

Having the same problem, did you figure out a solution? I tried resetting Firefox, using IE, logging out and back in...

So I discovered something. I used the url and exchanged the numbers for a couple of my posts (recent and old) and it brings me to a page that says "You can no longer edit or delete that post." Is this a new thing or a mistake because we aren't just talking about missing buttons now.

The ability to delete / edit posts goes away after 30 days.

Several reasons, but the top two are:

Shady people selling things and editing the description after the sale; and users throwing a tantrum and deleting all of their posts en masse.

If there's something absolutely critical that needs to be edited after 30 days, please reach out to one of our moderators and let them know what's up.

My edit button dissappears in about 5 minutes. I've got another thread going about this now. I haven't had a chance to fire up the computers and try a firefox reset as requested by the mods.

My issue has never been resolved. It's just something that I have to live with.

We had to place limits on when you could edit posts. We had issues with people leaving the forums and deleting all of their posts and with changing the language in a for sale listing so they could scam people. If you need to edit a post after the allotted time has passed, you'll have to contact a moderator to change it for you. I know it's inconvenient, but douchey people make us make stupid rules.

Edit limits are set at an hour.

There's a "preview" button, just so you can check your post before hitting "publish."

Like float said, if it weren't for scammers and shady punks, we wouldn't have to have a limit at all. :(

Yeah but this sucks for legit sellers. I have an item for sale and I can't edit the original post to edit the price. So when you open the thread you see a price that's $150 more than I actually want for the item.

Then contact a mod and we'll change it for you. That's what we're here for. Don't ever feel like you can't talk to a mod about something on NICO. We actually like to help. PM me a link to the FS thread and what you want the price changed to and I'll get it fixed.

bumping this thread up.

since photobucket's recent update, i'm having to find a new image host and will need to go through and edit 24 pages of my build thread to replace broken pictures (probably close to 1000 pics). :tisk: and now i can't do it because i can't edit my posts. would a mod help me in doing that? i would rather do it myself since i know it's going to take a couple of hours to do and wouldn't want to put that on someone else's time.

Holy crap, yeah that's a monumental task.
I wish Photobucket would/could do a 1 time charge and just host the pics for the rest of time, but I can see why they wouldn't.

If you literally copied each thread and then just put in the newly updated link, and dumped it all in a word or notepad file, it wouldn't be so bad for us to update it. Just make sure you put something in there to signify a new page (like a line of *********** or something).

yeah it's going to be a huge pain either way. i suppose i could do that, write a huge text file of all the edited posts with updated links and send it to you. or maybe just make me a mod for a day so i can do it myself lol. either way, still working on moving stuff right now.

Yeah, I wonder if we're just kicking the can down the road too... like if the next free hosting company is just going to do the same thing in a month or 2.

very true, i was thinking that too. i made an imgbb account and they seem to not care about forum linking or bandwidth usage (nothing in their terms of use) so hopefully that will be good for now. i may just make 2 accounts and split everything up although i'm sure they would still see that all the traffic is coming from nicoclub. i have about 900 pics in that thread but they only take up about 150mb so bandwidth shouldn't be much of an issue with how many views that thread gets.

Ah, I didn't even know we could do that on a user by user basis. Guess I should have checked.

Actually, we can't... which I realized after I posted. See mod forum.
