well the car is done and tuned in, i will post pics on the web, but things got really messed up on the first runs on the street with her. Someone ( i will not say any names) hooked the wastegate line up wrong and the external wastegate never opened. I took one full throttle run in second gear and by the time my passanger could tell me to let off the boost gauge went all the way up and around (the boost gauge goes to 30) and the car had stopped running. she still makes compression and wants to crank but i think i have worn out the rings bad. im going to rip her apart today and see whats up but i have a new respect for the ka24e block, she held up just fine for the most part.

**DOH**
Sorry for thread jacking but this is on topic. I'm going to buy a fully built KA ( rods , pistons , headwork ) motor with about 500 ( well probably 3000 by now ) miles on it. How much should I offer him. He is swapping it out. How much does it cost to make a race KAT!! thanks!

Just in parts alone it's worth upwards of 1300 brand new...considering rods, pistons, block, new bearings all around, new bolts, etc. Then you have to consider the machine work which depending on what all is done can get quite pricey. I'd say brand spanking new it could easily run 2 grand to have one put together, maybe more depending on who did it...but since it's used, that drops the price a decent amount Just make sure you check it out and look over all the work as best you can!

$2k is really cheap for a built KADE. I have at least twice that in mine and I don't spend money blindly. Pistons, Rods, Machine work, balancing, etc. It takes cash to make something that can take abuse and still live.

I must agree with turbo510 on that one. He has spent the money in the right places, mainly in the fab work, if you look at his car you see NO wires or ANYTHING. Theres a lot of money in the engine itself, seeing as he and I basically have the same exact engine the way it is built.

The machine shop here is going to charge me about 1600 for machine work and port polish with NO INSTALLATION!!! I told him I'll take apart everything and reinstall everything. He told me " 1600 bucks" Negative!! for now.

I'm not looking forward to looking for a good machine shop when my rods get here...I need the cylinders bored and honed, MAYBE the crank micropolished if I think they can do a good enough job, I need the whole rotating assembly balanced and measurements taken so I can get the right graded bearings. I'm REALLY picky and want to make sure they can do a really good job. On top of that, I'd like it torque plate bored but I doubt that's going to happen

Simulates the stresses put on the block by torqueing down the head. It can make the cylinder be slightly out of round and when we are talking about .0001 it can actually make a difference, at least that's what I've heard. I'ts not a MUST with me but I'd like to have the option...I doubt I will though.

I always have them bore my engines with a torque plate. It doesn't cost anything extra but does make a difference in ensuring the bores are bored perfectly round. The key is finding a shop that has a torque plate for your particular engine. Most machine shops have the standard ford and chevy V-8 plates so I took my engine to a shop that builds KA and KADE race engines because the have the right equipment.

Turbo510...Could you e-mail or post the name and contact info of the shop you had the work done with? I'm looking for a good machine shop and if I have to send the motor off I wont be particularly annoyed by it if it means it gets done right. Thanks!
