Thinking about a used 350z, what should I watch out for?

Hi, I am thinking about getting a used Z and was wondering what to look out for. I know that there are some issues with the early cars transmissions, but how do I avoid this? Can I just not look at 03s or were more model years affected as well. Any other problems to watch out for would be much appreciated.

What ever you decide, take it to a independent inspection place, and ALWAYS do a carfax report before you buy. Don't know where you live, but most states it's the law for a used car, that they allow you to get it inspected by a place other than where you are buying it. '03 &'04 check for uneven wear on the front tires if they aren't new ones. Those years had a bad problem with the alignment/toe being bad and wearing/feathering the front tires really fast. If auto, check for any unusual sounds in the trans. If manual, make sure it shifts nice, and the clutch isn't too squishy. And make sure both windows go up and down with no hesitation, or window motor grinding.

Most of your "bugs" have been worked out by now. The transmission issue with the manuals i believe was a problem all the way thru 2005 - its kind of hit and miss. Your warranty and recall issues have all been taken care of by now.

One thing to consider, is these cars are noisy. There are so many noises and sounds that it always sounds like something is going wrong but you'll find by the performance of the car, clearly nothing is wrong .Now, that being said, there aren't any noises like motor ticking or knocking, if you look at an 05-06 be sure to check the oil level (some had oil consumption issues - piston rings i believe are to blame). Be sure on all test drives you gun it hard - i do with every car, so if it fails or is hiding anything, it will show its true colors then.

Let us know what you look at / get.

edit: and as far as history checks, email me the VIN and i can help (but only for a limited amount of time left).
