The Shuffle Logic in the Versa SUCKS!!!

I love the factory head unit and the in dash 6 disc MP3 player. I have all slots filled, which is close to 4.5G of music. I always leave it on "shuffle all discs" for variety.

The shuffle logic in this car sucks!!! Even with 700+ songs it seems like I hear the same ones over and over. And the shuffle always goes from disc to disc, example: it NEVER will play two songs on CD1 before going to CDx.

Anyone else noticed this? Nissan needs to release a firmware update or something.

Just push "shuffle" more than once so it shuffles same disc, same folder, or one of the other options, jeebus.

No I have not noticed this, I do not like to shuffle, and if I did, i would use the "same disc" option.

Yea, I've gotten frustrated with that too. I hate that it HAS to go to a new disc each time and somehow I never hear certain songs but multiple songs repeat. The other peeve I have is that if i want to skip a song, it will just go to the next song on the CD ... instead of shuffling to a new song.

If it is that annoying why not just dump every song in one folder as MP3 and shuffle it? If that still doesn't work get an mp3 player and an aux cable.

Perhaps that would be a better solution than waiting for new FW or even changing out the head unit.

My iPod's shuffle algorithm also sucks. All it plays is Steely Dan...

That wouldn't be because you only have Steely Dan on your iPod, would it?

LOL, his Steely Dan is my Dave Matthews. The problem isn't that the shuffle sucks on 1 disc, it's that I have 6 discs worth of MP3's in there and the shuffling between all those discs suck as well.

well i think the problem here isn't so much the algorithum as it is STEELY DAN! lol j/k. i dont listen to them, so i can't say much.

but i HATE shuffling music. basically for the same reason as the Op is saying, you never hear the songs you want to. but then again, to me this seems like a very solvable problem. JUST PUT IT ON THE FREAKIN SONG YOU WANT TO HEAR!

With 700 songs loaded up... how exactly do you find the one you want? I would rather listen to music than search for it!

Thats a valid point. And for the record, i wasn't trying to be rude, that was actually more of a joke. sorry if i offended anyone, i have sort of a dry sense of humor.

anyway, yes, if you have 700 songs...well i got nothin for ya lol. i mean, with the 6 disk changer i think i would just listen to 1 at a time. it's really just personal pref. really.

or, on shuffle, just keep hitting the 'Next track" button, it still shuffles and you can play cat-n-mouse with the song you want to hear. OR by that same token, if you have a saong pop into your head that you want to hear...take it off shuffle, and find it. i mean my friend has a Zune with i dont even know how many songs (too many for me) and he has no problem. but then again, if you're just using MP3 CD's you have a problem.

so i say, get yourself an MP3 player adapter and use that. you can have MORE music, and not worry about not being able to choose a song.

It's not that hard...I have 6 discs in there and a metric ton of songs. I just have them sorted by artist (one disc is NIN and MM, another disc has another 2 artists, another has all the artists I only own one CD or one song) and then on each disc, have them sorted into albums which are numbered in chronological order... on the disc with a random assortment of artists I have them sorted instead by type and then alphebetized.

Oh and before burning the discs I went through and deleted any songs that weren't a "4" or "5" for me. So the only stuff in the car is stuff I really really like.

I've posted about this neat trick before. Figure out the artist/albums you are going to put on the MP3 CD. Fire up your audio recorder on your computer. Then go to this site:

http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

Type in the contents that you're going to put on the CD, start your recording program, then click "Speak" on the web page.

Save the resulting file as an MP3, with the name "aa_intro". Set up a folder also named "aa_intro" and put the recording into it.

Then load all your music onto the MP3 CD, including the aa_intro folder.

Now when the CD starts, the voice explains exactly what's on the disk. Works nice, and impresses the heck out of visitors.

Another thing about MP3 CD's is that you can organize them within a CD by folder. I have one of Vienna Teng with two concerts, three CD's and a bunch of other files, broken up into six folders so I know where I am. The SL CD player lets you skip from folder to folder as well as file to file, and will display the names of the folders and files, so it's easy to find a specific tune. Plus, when it's on random, it will find the files within the folders and include them all.

Hehehe... no, I'm not offended! A majority of my music is Steely Dan, so maybe the algorithm is fine... never thoght of it that way!
