Its a J16 with about 55 HP. Not sure of the torque tho. Its not easy to find one in good condition here in the caribbean. You might be able to source on in Canada.

Here's the latest. The mechanic came and looked for me. He said the install is complete and he has started the truck. After killing the battery he checked and realized there no pulse at the injectors. He asked if I could source a wiring diagram to sort out the problem. No problem, you guys here at NICO sent me a readable diagram and once again I'm waiting on him. Lets see how It will take.

Thanks again to the guys who sent me those emails. You're life savers.

Went to look for the mechanic. The truck is covered with a tarp and there are some other vehicles in the yard that he's repairing. Told him matter of factly, the truck is to be completed by the 15th. If not I'll be coming for it and he will have to reimburse me for the repair by the new mechanic. Will update you all by Saturday.

Received the gauges I ordered from the US today and the gasket kit from Australia for the spare engine. I'll start the rebuild soon. Pics shortly.

Sorry to be off the grid for so long guys, but I'm back, not with a bang but I'll be on more regular. Here's the latest. Went to look for the truck since my return and its not in the mechanics yard. At last its by the electrician. Went to check the electrician. Good news, the electrician has done a few like this so it should not be a problem but there are somethings that need addressing according to the electrician. The engine sits too low and the intake manifold is impacting on the clutch cylinder, the air flow is not installed, the turbo is not connected to the intake manifold, the radiator hoses need to be redirected and the battery wires need to be lengthened. In other words I'll have to do the installation all over again. I'll let you all know more when I go back to see the electrician.

The electrician called and told me it has started, but is backfiring a lot. He will not restart until the other issues has been corrected. Today I went to the electricians shop and asked him if I could work on the truck in his yard an he said no problem. I connected the down pipe, connected the turbo to the intake manifold, installed the air flow in a proper place and secured it and cut and lined up the engine mountings. Will weld and reinstall mountings by Thursday because I will be on work daylight Tuesday and Wednesday. The electrician asked why I did not do the installation my self as I handled the work so easily. I told him laziness is to blame. I wanted some one else to have the headache I ended up with. I was too busy and tired to take pictures but promise to take some next time I do some work. :dblthumb:

Slow progress with the engine mounts, but I hope to show some soon. I got a deal on a webber 38/38 and decided to use this on the spare engine. I'm doing away with the fuel injection and blowing down through the webber. Haven't decided what jets to use as yet or what FPR but I have time.

I've decided to bring the truck home to complete the job, then return it to the electricians yard. Its more difficult than I thought to do the repairs in his yard as I need to travel some distance (60 mile round trip), take measurements, fabricate, return to try fitting, make adjustments, return to try fitting, so I'm bringing her home complete the repairs and hope to get a space back in his yard again. It took 4 months to get the first space according to the mechanic, so I'll have to negotiate a return.

I'm a sucker for friends. Yes I said friends. We work together sometimes and he came highly recommended. Here are some photos of how I got it back.

Did not take measurements so the turbo needs to be more on the side like nis 720's

Image

Custom fan set up

Image

Yeah, the drain for the sump is over the sub frame and the fuel line passes between the engine and sub frame.

Image

The vacuum line for the booster touches the clutch master cylinder.

Image

This was there before I removed the engine mount brackets.

Image

This turns on the fans at 180 degrees fahrenheit.

As repairs are done it will be posted. :werd:

All I have to do now is to drop the gas tank, re-run the fuel lines and run the piping for the turbo. The timing is completed and the air flow is set in place.

Image

I will try to post a vid of the start up. :woot:

Its time to return the truck to the electrician. Fuel lines and pump connected - made sure there is fuel returning to the tank, run the piping for the turbo and wire in the fans. Had to redo the timing again and its still out but starts. No vid of the attempted start up as my daughter went out with the camera, but it started and wont run. It has no signal at the injectors. Will post pics of the piping and wiring soon. :woot: Have not made contact with the electrician as yet.

Decided to go the extra mile. Its been down for 15 months whats one more.

Cleaned instrument panel and column switch cluster.

Image

Installed the boost gauge in the instrument Panel

Saw this gauge set up in another 720 my brother was driving. This one had a CA18DET installed with ACT clutch and an assortment of engine mods, pulls very strong.

Will keep posting as work progresses.

I set the bung for the exhaust temp sensor and is in the process of installing the AC and power mirrors. Had no idea that the mirrors would be so much work but I already started so I'll have to finish.

Alright. I completed the installation of the blower and ducting for the air-condition. Had to fabricate some adaptors for the vents. Made them out of wire and fiberglass. I did not remember to take pics whilst working so you all only got the after shots.

Could not get an original blower here and this one was free.

They're a little bent but they fit.

I ordered the gauges yesterday and was told they will be here on the 13th. I also got another turbo as the oil seal turbine side on the one on the engine leaks badly. :woot:

Well they came early so I installed the oil pressure in the instrument panel.

Image

Image

And here is the process

prepare the insert from the panel

Image

install the insert

Image

install the gauge in the panel face

Image

Image

cut out the back of the panel housing and fit the panel face back on

Image

Image

this is what it looks like from the back after its installed

Image

and from the front

Image

Reassemble the panel and install in the dash. Ran out of time as I gotta go to work so the water temp gauge will go on the dash tomorrow. :woot:

and completed the installation of the temp Gauge. Unfortunately there is no pod for the gauge and I could not get the sender to pass behind the dash without removing it so I installed it in the instrument panel and put the boost gauge back on the dash.

and I would like opinions on my door mirror installation so far.

To top it off heres the new turbo I received.

USD 310.55 and I still have to get a waste gate. Another 300 bucks.
