What about fuel pressure regulators? Any experience with the eBay ones? They're like $35 compared to the $150 name brands

I don't know if I'd rely on something as critical as the fuel pressure regulator unless it was a proven brand. We're talking about something that can destroy a motor in a VERY short time if it malfunctions. Better safe then sorry in this area.

I'm running one of the fpr's with a built in gauge, not sure if it's a Megan Racing one or a generic ebay one, but I did buy it from ebay. It's been fine as long as I've had it, but I have also heard horror stories about it. As long as you visually check the fuel pressure with the gauge before you drive it, as well as have a wideband to monitor the ratio you should be fine.

i think ima give the godspeed turbo a shot on ebay. with a ssac bottom mount manifold..looks ok.and ive never had a problem with ebay before. i have a 99 civic pushing 400whp with a garret turbo and aem mangement on a ebay ramhorn and 3in dp with flex..i braced the manifold with 1/4in steel and braced the wg flange cuz it cracked night before my dyno tune -_-..the dp took a good couple of hard hits before it cracked lol jus welded it back together and stopped trying to b flush and picked the car up..no problems other wise that i didnt provoke.

Late reply to this but I've been using a MK1 fpr from eBay that's been holding up ok, but I'll change to a fuel lab fpr next round of mods because WD is right, if it fails under boost your motors toast

EMUSA cast iron top mount t3/t4 manifold. Flanges are all level, I'll probably slot the flange in between runners so it's less likely to warp. Only complaint: the t3 footprint holes are tapped all the way to the inside of the manifold. The manifold comes with studs, but one of them never "bottoms out" so you can't use a stud. For $80 shipped I'm not complaining though. I'll update with more pictures once it's installed.

Dude for $1200 you could get a quality manifold and a used baby turbo from the junkyard and you can get a manual boost controller for cheap. I'm all for budget kits but $1200 can damn near get you the Greddy kit without the turbo.

True, i guess with some used sr injectors, z32 maf, ebay intercooler kit, used t25/t28 and a decent manifold you can do it pretty cheap, tuning with just a rom tune would be suffecient i guess for like 8 psi?

The key to any cheap setup is the tune, everything else is personal preference. That being said...

The "generic" Ebay setup is a bottom mount setup, the safe way to do it is to use OEM stuff for the key parts. Here's my recipe for a reliable/cheap/fun setup on a DE. It's been said before, but I feel like typing.

stock mafs
sr 370cc injectors
OEM t25/t28
ROM tune (EFI Specialist, Enthalpy, JWT)
XS Power/SSA (Ebay) bottom mount manifold
Ebay SR turbo outlet
Ebay SR downpipe
Ebay FMIC kit
Cheapest legitimate BOV you can find

This setup will run you around a grand buying most of the stuff new, it will be cheaper if you get deals locally, and will get you a safe 225whp. You can spend a little more money and get bigger injectors/mafs, that will lay the groundwork for future setups that support more hp, the stock block can handle around 300whp with a safe tune.

Note - the stock mafs and 370cc injectors max out around the same time, so I wouldn't bother with a z32 mafs unless you go with 550cc's or bigger.

Would you bother running the coolant lines, and teeing them off of the lines under the intake mani? I know for longevity it's ideal, but wouldn't a cool off period (turbo timer) be enough?

I never ran coolant lines, just make sure you let the turbo cool down before shutting off the engine.

The car can be tuned to run with an atmospheric BOV, but you'll need a piggy back type controller. You can run your MAF in a blow-thru setup, where the MAF is on the cold side of the FMIC plumbing and the BOV is on the hotside. This is the best way, IMHO, to run a BOV that is vented to the atmosphere.

The easiest option is usually just to vent it back into the system. A sealed system eliminates the vacuum leak gremlin.

Put the EMUSA manifold on last night. All the exhaust stud holes had to be drilled out a little, the manifold didn't slide over the studs without drilling. The top stud on runner #2 had to be trimmed, without cutting part of it off it hits the collector and doesn't allow the manifold seat against the head.

When I was drilling the holes the material pretty much turned into powder as the drill bit went through it. Definitely a poor material, I'm betting it only holds up for a year.

We bought an ebay turbo kit for my buddies s14 for like $550 shipped to his door, we installed it and car turned over fine and ran great we set it for around 3 psi because he hadnt built the motor out and he was nervous he would fudge something up. After about 2 months he bought the wiseco piston and rods kits and basically forged his internals for about $700. Over the next couple months we bought a new turbo, manifold, bov, etc. So when you buy these kits from my experience you can run it the way you get it (luckily we didnt have to modify anything on installation) on low psi for a couple months as long as you have intentions of upgrading most of what you bought. But it's always easier to upgrade then buy piece by piece to get where you wanna be. His 95 240 is now running 14 psi with well into the 300's. It's what I plan on doing, ill get a pic of the kit and some names of the replacements.

Hey KA people. Z32 tt guy.. haven't been over on this side of Nico since I've been here, so with that said... 2012 bump and have a question for you:

Anyone yet have experience with Godspeed t28 turbochargers? They're almost an exact copy of the Garrett GT2860rs. They came out with a bolt on kit for us z32 guys on the vg30dett, and I've only seen one z32 on youtube with this particular kit. The price is good, and doesn't require a 5 bolt downpipe unlike a regular gt2860rs. (they do sell regular 5 bolt t28's too, which is also why I ask...) They also come with a 1 year warranty!

I'm considering trying these out since I'll have another car to DD whenever this car fails, (which I'm assuming it will at some point if i'm putting these on.) But i'm just curious to see what people have to say about them. I was originally looking for the garrett gt2560r's, but these are cheaper and support 600hp as opposed to 500 on the VG. If these things will at least last about a year or more, and I can swap a Garrett CHRA in it, i'll buy them!

The key to having a turbo last is having it balanced. The reason the majority of ebay turbo's die quickly is because they aren't balanced. I can't speak for Godspeed but these guys are balanced.

Thanks for the post. I'll ask ken @Godspeedproject if they balance the turbos before they sell them, then update my post and let everyone know. From what I've heard him say, If the turbo blows, and it's installed by a certified tech, no questions asked on the 1 yr warranty.

The SOHC was only in the 89-90 model years. Most reputable kits will be specific to 89-90, 90-94, 95-98. When you look at the images the SOHC turbo manifold is very different than the DOHC manifold. The first image is the SOHC, 2nd is the dohc.
