Ok... I found more info on that wheel I posted above, the Lenso Widetrack. Apparently, it is the Austrailian version of what we in the states know as the Axis Widetrack.

I had a really hard time finding them for sale in 4x114.3 though. Might have to call Axis and ask for the 18x9+20 4 lug...

Since you linked this in another thread...

Will confirm as well that P45R in 17x9/9.5 +12 will clear 30mm Z32 brakes with LOTS of room to spare.

Didn't realize you were looking at 9" wide or bigger (hence I referred to the 002 earlier).

For any times you cant find wheels to fit your application, you can also use racing steelies. Plenty of companies make them, Bassett, Diamond, etc. They can make you custom backspacings too. These are, of course, only for motorsports use and not meant for dailys. I have a set for my R14 Hoosier r-compounds.

Np =)

In auto-x/circuit racing, the race tires you use are ridiculously heavy, so a lot of the times you try to run the smallest tire possible (13's/14's/15's). This is where race steelies come in, as it's difficult to find good cheap wheels in those sizes for your bolt pattern in a custom backspacing (2", 3", 3.6", etc). They're very cheap so you dont have to worry about hurting them either, as a replacement wheel will run you along the lines of 50-70 bucks.

I wish I had the 17x8.5 instead of the 16x8.5 otherwise I wouldn't feel the need to upgrade so much. I wonder if powdercoating them some outlandish color will make them cool to me? Hmmm... probably not. If I do powder coat mine, it's gonna be gold chrome.

hey guys i was just wondering why do you guys like the wide rims with low offsets? is it for better ride quality or is it for the looks?

That's a complex question. The answer can depend on how wide are you talking about and how low an offset are you talking about. There exists a certain 'magic number' such that when you select the correct width & offset, you will be able to run the maximum amount of rubber under your stock fender without the tire looking all fat on a too narrow wheel.

So, my answer to your question (and in referrence to most of the wheels in this thread) is that we do it to increase functionality by using all the space available under your fenders. Wider wheels with low offset will:
-allow for wider tires, thus providing greater traction for increased safety and performance.
-ensure that your wheel is offset enough that it can actually fit without hitting your coilovers, fenders or wheel well lining.
-increase your car's wheelbase and tract, also improving handling.

That is how the conservative or performance minded individual would view the subject. However, the 'drift' minded builders are different. They like excessively wide wheels with obscenely low offsets. The reason for this is for both aesthetics and purpose built tuning.

This kind of excessive wheel fitment will neccessitate that the user stretch their tires in under to fit them on their wheels given the space limitations of their fenders. The result is an aesthetically pleasing look where the wheel is flush with the car's fenders.

The secondary benefit of the more extreme type of wheel fitment is that the vehicle will have a wide stance while having actually very little traction or grip. Naturally, this would be preferable when drifting in underpowered cars since it would then be easier to break the tires loose.

My personal preference is to select fitment that is a combination of these two ideals. Fitment which allows for moderately wide & sticky rubber subtly stretched on 9 to 10.5 inch wide wheels for the flush/widetract look. I'm talking about running tires between 235 to 265 in width all under stock fenders as low as I can get the car to go.

Great addition to the thread! Thanks alot, Scrapnsidwayz! :dblthumb:

Now, anybody know offhand - What's the widest 15" tire in production? :naughty:

Edit: Nevermind - got it! 225/50/15's! Here's some on an AE86 with 15x10-25 wheels all around:

And here's an S13 on the the 15x8-30 028's with 195/50/15 tires!

^^^At the very least, you could fit a little baby in them... lol

And with that - I think that's just about every 4 lug wheel that would look good on a 240. I'll be pleasantly surprised if anyone thinks of anymore, unless some manufacturer designs to release a new design for us...
