I'm buying a ca18 with Sr t25 and Gtr injectors (440cc), he had the safc already installed, and is willing to sell it to me. I'm planning on running about 11 psi off my hks evc, and I obviously want the car to be tuned to some degree, for safe and reliable driving. What do you think of the safc as an option for me? I want something simple for tuning, and this seems to be a good bet. I heard it can mess with your timing though? Will I still want an a/f wideband after this or will this show my a/f. Thoughts? Thanks guys.

A wideband is a must to tune any car. I'd recommend something other then an SAFC2 because of the bigger turbo and injectors. The way SAFC2 works is it alters the MAF signal that the ECU sees to either add or remove fuel. The downfall when it does this, it adds or pulls timing based on where in the map you alter the fuel map.

SAFC2 is better then no tune, but a ROM tune would be way better for you.

hmmm well I'm getting an safc 2 wired up with altima fans wired up for $200 canadian....so it comes down to it being a deal or not at this poing.

Think I will have problems tuning with an safc being a novice? I have to say tuning is probably my weakest point when it comes to working on a car and knowledge. I guess my question is, is it "user friendly", for lack of a better word.....

tune it to run stock specs with the upgraded injectors(think Float said it was 20% across the board).

install boost controller(set to stock spring PSI).

take to dyno have a pro tune it with the SAFC with the increase boost parameters.

not something I would be doing seat of my pants tuning.(even with a wideband)

spending the money for a Eprom tune is def far more worth it IMHO, but atleast getting it profressionally tuned with the SAFC is a step in the right direction.

Sounds like my $200 is better spent on a used AEM wideband, and I should be tossing out some extra cash for an ECU / ROM tune on a dyno...

Agree?

I say look into nistune. It is pretty cheap and then you can modify the tune later on when you change your setup if you do. If you are going to go to the dyno to tune then you don't really need to buy a wideband because they have them there or atleast every dyno I have ever been to does.
