Driving the 2002 Infinti I35 in traffic and all of a sudden while pushing the accelerator pedal down the car would not move forward. Looked at the dashboard and noticed the TCS off, ABS and check engine lights all on. Put the car in park and shut it off. Attempted to start the car and it would not turn over. Thankful that there was a tow truck a few cars behind a few cars behind and was towed home. The car can be started with a boost and now have the car in the garage charging. Could my traffic related issue be due to the battery? Check engine light is on because of an EVAP code. Unless I correct that code I wouldn't be able to see of any other codes correct?

Classic symptom of a failing or 'dead' alternator. A good and fully charged battery must have 12.6 VDC or higher. If the alternator is good, the charging voltage must be greater than 13.8 VDC with engine running (spec is 14.1-14.7 VDC). Check the alternator wiring as well as the battery connectors and if Ok, the alternator has to be replaced.

Thanks loystock! Took the alternator out lastnight. Tested with a bad ripple plus something inside was causing it to whine giving me the impresssion I was having a powersteering pump issue. New alternator going in on monday with new belts. And unfortunately I'll need to replace a coolant line located under the A/C compressor that was broken during disassembly. My car is gonna get alot of TLC in the next few months. I keep getting an EVAP egine code which I believe is caused by a very rusty fuel filler neck where the gas cap needs to be screwed. That cannot be an easy nor cheap repair right?

I've got the same issue with my filler neck. I stuff a rag in there and then clean it up with scotch brite and wipe some rustcheck on it. (Don't use anything that could cause a spark!) I do this twice a year and the code hasn't come back.
