There is a lot of road construction on the street where my workplace is located and the other day, I must have driven through something they were using, because now my rockers and wheel well areas are covered in it. It's not your run of the mill tar, because my Armor All Bug and Tar remover couldn't even put a dent in it. I also tried a little bit of peanut butter... same lack of a result. I'm really worried about this stuff and have no clue what to do about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what's the most effective type of wax you've come across? Thanks.

go to the city...tell them the area and approx time it happened, if there smart they'll say hey take in we'll take care of the bill. With my old car they dident cover a hole competely and it burst my tire when i went through it and I ended up with 4 new tires in less then 2 days

Try versagirlie's approach first, don't wait too long and let that stuff cure though, if they cant or wont help you try mineral spirits (pure),and elbow grease should do the trick, I just tried the Turtle wax ICE synthetic liquid polish and I'm not too impressed with it, have you ever used a clay bar before ?? It will give you a show room finish if used properly, along with a quality paste wax.

For the tar, try 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, Part # 051135-08984. This should be available from any store that sells automotive paint and body shop supplies. I got mine from the local Nissan dealer, which stocks it for their in-house body shop. It removes adhesives, silicone, wax, grease TAR and oil. It works great!

As for wax, I really like Meguiar's NXT Liquid. I've been using it for about 4 years now.

If you really want a great detailer's finish with more effort, check into ZAINO products and their multi-step process.

The stickers better not be on the paint! If they were on the windows, use a fresh razor blade and Windex (to aid in dissolving the adhesive). If it's on the paint, the best thing to do is buy a can of WD40 and drive the car through the front of the Sanitation Department's building. Damn, that's my cure for everything... Buy a defective coffee maker at WalMart? drive the car through the store! Scratched paint? Drive the car into a lake and collect the insurance money! Get cut off in traffic? Smash into their car! I'm demented.

The 3M stuff will remove adhesive, and will NOT harm the paint in any way, other than removing any wax as well. It's great for removing emblems, stickers, decals, etc.

Before getting yourself invovlved in a horrible chemical (I should know, I am involved in the downstream petroleum industry). For tar removal try a concentrated orange oil. It MELTS tar. Roofers use it to clean their "oops" on clients houses, etc. The brand I am familiar with is called "TKO" And its natural. You can use it anywhere (just follow the directions, of course!).Happy cleaning!
