Taillight wiring harness

1994 Nissan 4x4 hardbody king cab. Brake lights not working. The very reliable dealership who usually works on it quoted an exorbitant price, saying the wiring harness has failed and is not available and would have to be built from scratch by one of their mechanics. I'm thinking this is not a DIY kind of thing?

Electrical repair is by the hour in most shops. It can be a nitemare. I'd see about locating a truck in the junk yard. If you find one grab the harness, or a good section of it to fix yours.

BTW I notice "D21 Hardbody" in your signature. I see this sometimes when I look up parts online and in repar manuals, but it's not a designation that'sin my owner's manual or on the truck or anywhere else I can find. My impression was it was previous years, but yours is '95?

D21 was the model designation from 1986-1/2 through 1995 for the pickup trucks.

I am not sure what the dealership is trying to quote you. I am guessing they are talking about the rear-most harness on the truck. I can check with my dealer to see if they discontinued bit is to be believed. I'd ask the dealer for more information about what they are trying to repair.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I'm thinking by harness they must mean the cluster of wires and splices and connectors to the taillights? Not finding it in parts stores online.
