Tail light electrical mod?

Here's one for the electrical geniuses out there. On my G35 coupe I'd like to have my rear turn signal lamps light with the rest of the LEDs in regular driving mode. But, still have it blink on/off or dim/bright when signaling for a turn. Right now the outer lamps are dark except when signaling. Reason? Purely aesthetic, to make the car look wider and more GTR-like.

Are the turn signals LED's as well, or a regular bulb? If it's a bulb you might be able to replace it with an 1157 and wire it up with the brake running light signal on low and the turn on high... not sure if any of this is legal.

It's the same bulb (T20) as the front turn signal so I'm going to see if I can change the socket. Legal? Don't care.
