Tachometer is inoperative - 1st solution?

Is there something that is obvious about an inoperative tachometer in an 1984 300 ZX non digital dash? Before getting into it I thought it should be asked.

the only thing I can think of is the wiring, I seem to recall that the tach feed wire routes through the inside of the upper inner fender, you might want to locate it and make sure it's not damaged disconnected
