Yello!

so... some thoughts never really leave my agitated brain... like - how to clone ECM (in case experiments end up messing up ECM, like bricking or whatever).
looked at FSM - seems like you need virgin ECM, then perform IVIS/NATS initialization, then add all the keys and program VIN. (learnings for throttle body and such not important right now).

1) how much time does it take for dealership to do that?
2) are there known ways to virginize ECM? (like buying used one and reusing it - price/performance ratio is important :lolling:
3) if I do all this and new ecm is working - will I be able to plug back in old ecm and will it still work? (to be honest - I don't know much about IVIS/NATS working internals).

OH, and I stumbled upon some writeup about NATS5 (which allegedly is in MY2014 Rogue) - and it says that I will need PrePIN and PIN. while prepin can be read from car and pin will be coming from nissan-techinfo website... are there simple ways how to disable NATS?

You can use a used ECM, but it's very important that it comes from a car with matching NATS. Don't try to use a hard-key ECM on an I-Key car or vice versa. BCM's aren't swappable for used, but ECM's are.

Most places will just charge you an hour. It physically takes about half that.

No, but like I said above, used ones are okay with proper precautions.

Depends, but in most cases no. Once a new ECM is installed on most Nissans, the old one will no longer be recognized.

There's no way I'm aware of to disable it at all, simple or otherwise. On earlier models where the BCM didn't participate, you could do it with an ECM repro. Where the BCM is involved you can't do that, because BCM's are purposely non-reprogrammable.

as always - thanks! more information that I imagined, and more useful information at that :D

that is sad about not being useable both ecm-s... which means - if I mess up - gotta wait for dealership :D

I have red somewhere about disable bit in ECM, but sounds like that is about those older ones.

another question then - if I use some aftermarket ecu/ecm (just to get engine running/driving) - what is BCM really doing for that matter? I looked at BCS.pdf in FSM - seems like it is not involved in fuel pump, engine running... would that be possible? though CVT is open question right away :DDDD

On I-Key models the BCM controls a starter-cut relay inside the IPDM. On hard-key models (and most I-Key models too), the BCM needs to handshake with the ECM or the latter will suppress spark.

hm... then this idea with other ecu is kinda... not fully useable, but worth investigating... because transmission will need data from ecu, but otherwise (keeping in mind starter and other things) that can be done... which is cool... for another idea :DD
