Swapping HID headlights to halogen

What are my options here?

I've had my car about 3 years and have always had problems with the headlights turning off.

I think I want to ditch the HID and go back to basics. I've seen videos on other cars where they just cut out the ballast and stick a plug for a halogen bulb on the end. Will a halogen bulb fit in the socket for the HID bulb?
