C'mon now, I've been around the block long enough to know that twincharging is almost always inferior to a properly sized turbo set up...why don't I try to make it a KA24DETT (LOL NOOBS)

but seriously I think it should only need to change to "SuperDorifto's Kouki KA-DER Build"

I'm still rocking Foster's old KYB AGX + Eibach Sportlines on my 240, and his meth injection is sitting on a shelf in my garage. Good to see you back on the boards.
So, the funny thing about the Nissan Xterra/Frontier M62 is that it is not liquid cooled like its larger GM m90 cousin, or even the other M62s that are on Saturn Ions. Above 10psi intake temps can get above 200 deg F necessitating some sort of intake charge cooling...

Foster's old kit is just sitting on a shelf... :naughty:

Would you be at all adverse to letting me make him even more jealous by finishing my project with his old parts?

Not at all man... I was thinking of converting it to an intercooler sprayer, but if you need it and it and want to taunt Foster at the same time, I'm all for it :)

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!

Time for an Update. Summer has come and just about gone, and my project keeps trucking along, I've accumulated a ton of sweet parts that is going to make this car shine when its done, but the SC is most likely not going in until the Winter.

Anywho....

AEM EMS V1 OBDII

Image

AEM Stand Alone Wideband w/Gauge - planning to run the AEM universal gauge as my second/only other gauge - lets you monitor anything that the system is currently datalogging - should be a pretty clean set-up. Will normally show boost, but can be switched on the fly, or whenever the user progammable max/min warning values are hit. Going to use it for coolant temp, oil pressure, voltage, Charge cooler coolant temp, and IAT before and after the charge cooler.

Image
Image

Modified s14 dizzy with the AEM trigger disc already installed and CRB coils/pigtails

Image
Image

Baller a** COP Distributor Delete Cover - my favorite part by a wide margin

Image

Set of (6) 550cc sidefeeds - came from a 300zx build, couldn't turndown having extra injectors

Image

Trans star KA/SR Tranny rebuild kit - need to throw this in my extra tranny stat, no syncros in 2-3 or 4-5

Image

White Bunny 1.0 set up - Stock D21 Flywheel/Excedy NA Z32 Clutch + New OEM Nissan Flywheel/Pressure Plate Bolts (contemplating upgrading to 2.0 over the winter RB20 Fly/350z Clutch)

Image
Image

Rear z32 backing plates/e brake set up for my brake swap - sending the calipers and most of my KA out for powdercoating this week. Still need conversion lines, R33 cables, pads/rotors/MC

Image

I also bit the bullet and went full forged for the motor - overkill for the SC, but down the line I want to be able to throw down some numbers with pump gas.

OG Crower KA Rods - my latest acquisition, brand new for half price, going to mate them with my lightly used Wiseco's that for some reason would not sell on any of the forums or Ebay (may still buy new pistons just because)- also picked up an 11mm head stud kit from AMS's dwindling KA parts, already had Clevite main/rod bearings and ARP main studs.

Image
Image

Work is kicking my a**, but hopefully I'll be able to get my charge cooler over to MajikDragon so he can TIG the s*** outta it...then I can mock everything up for the engine while the built motor goes off to the shop to have all of the block work done.

Timeserts for the 11mm studs, and helicoils for the head so I can stop worrying about stripping the VC bolts

Planning/Parts left to buy:
Need to work out my oil filter relocation/cooler, the rest of my AN lines(all coolant), and how I want to run my harness - def moderatley tucked, potentially mil-spec to go along with the theme of the build. I'm also replacing all of the engine bolts with metric 12 pts...which are a b**** to find if you dont want ARP HW.

Updates once stuff gets back from Powdercoat...

Lookin good man! Definitely way beyond "keeping it simple" now.

Its like a p0ker hand that just gets all sorts of out of control. You're all in, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

if you find yourself running out of things to buy I'll send you my list lol.

return the current clutch/fly wheel(weigh it) setup and go for a light fw and the 350z clutch. My car felt a little lame on the 32lb fw, its got a metric s*** ton more pep now with the 11lb unit.

Thats what I'm thinking as well. need to see what RB20 flywheel deals pop up, would prefer a stock flywheel so if one pops up in my local forum or here i'll bite. most likely going with the Xcessive Z32 tranny kit if I have enough money this year...need to see how tax season looks.

Well I can say first hand the ebay xtd IIRC(AIMCO) is a decent piece! 11lbs and no balance issues(revved to 7300rpm) The alignment was spot on for clutch mounting. Probably got 6~800 miles on it so far and no issues to date. Only thing I really noticed was the center hub was half a mm bigger(I guess, it spun a little easier to align the mounting holes, but its shoulder bolts so I didnt worry) even with an 11lb fw you are still looking at a near stock clutch and fw weight once a larger clutch is installed.

Spent some quality time with my orbital sander - finally got all the paint off the CF hood I bought last year.

Image

I degreased it and dried it to see if I had any imperfections. It looks pretty dull at only 400. Once I hit it with some new clear, and buff it'll shine right up

Image

If pretty happy with the outcome, considering I picked up the hood for ~$100 bucks. Total sanding time was around 8 hours. Ive hit it with the 220 and 400. If its nice out tomorrow, I'll finish it up with 600. Respray some clear, wet sand at 1000 and 2000, and buff it out next weekend.

The soapy water made a world of difference in stripping off the old paint.

This build looks pretty awesome.
I'm currently in the process of my first KA-T build, threads like this help out a bunch.

Right now I'm still gathering all the parts to take to the machine shop. Pistons and Rods will be here Wednesday then everything can be taken to the shop. :bigthumb:
Keep up the good work! Glad to see someone doing a proper well planned build.

Considering that the first one sorta fell through 7-8 years ago, and the SR build also fell through 1-2 years later.....this was long overdue.

Planning on getting the block squared away next weekend with the hood...

almost....i was shopping for one back in November...I just wanted to have a tangible thing to swap in....I'm much closer now. Bought all of the hardline material for the turbo, I need to get my fuel lines/reg/pump squared away, and a few more things.

Oil pump
lengthen the SR DP
BOV flange on the intake piping
Oil Pressure sender
COP wiring

Then we can start building - target for real is the end of May for the motor install, and the end of June for the Tune.

FInally budgeted enough to get this thing finished!!!..

Bought:

All of the COP wiring and most importantly the coils.
An extra OBDII harness
All of the timing parts for the motor (OEM Nissan)
All of the Oil Pump parts (OEM Nissan)
I did a rundown, and pretty mutch every bolt on the engine is brand new, along with every component and seal, with the exception of the girdle
Bought all of the -6 fuel lines
Also bought my Aeromotive FPR, inline filter, and Stealth pump
Bought the rebuild kit for my z32 Brakes too.

Now for the sad part....I'm going to be traveling for work for the next 3-4 weeks. Boxes full of christmas are literally showing up every day, and I cant start building till the end of the month....

Sad Face.

Oh well, have some pics of me fixing the wipers on the MR2. Its a build in its own right - The, "how little can I spend to make this an awesome DD - Build." (Edit, pics will need to wait until I can get to a computer to upload them)

Totals so far:
Car - $400
Brake Master - $337 (Paid my local shop to help diagnose and install)
Wiper fix - ($3 in quick set epoxy, I'm looking for a new set of arms for a more permenent solution)

Pics....

Hood removed, inner plastics and spare tire moved...found a mouse nest the size of a football behind the master cylinder, and some rust...

Image
Image
Image

wiper motor removed

Image

Wiper arms, and inner linkage removed, most cars are the same, just plastic ball joints, be firm but gentle, the rods bend easily, but can always be bent back...

Image

Found the problem, this is the end thats supposed to attach the motor....its been smashed, luckily the plastic ball joint was still in the arm compartment, its hagard, but usable.

Image

Spent some time, straigtening out the bent housing, because of all the damage it wont hold the plastic housing any more...

Image

Quick set to the rescue, this s*** is awesome...

Image

Mix it up, work quick, its starts to harden in about 2-3 minutes, and cures overnight

Image

Good as new, for now... I was careful to cement the bearing housing in WITHOUT getting any epoxy on the race. Lubed it up, along with all the others and put it all back together. Now I just need to fix the intermittent switch.

Image
Image
Image

Total - $740

Up next:
Door Hinge Sag
Radio/Speaker Install
Intermitant Wiper Switch Rebuild
General Interior Clean up
Tires/Wheels (Baller Status of course)
Tune up
Coolant Bleed
Rear Wheel Bearings
Exhaust

The goal is to finish the above for as little money as possible, still shopping around for options - above is a complete list (excluding rust) of everything that needs to be fixed to make the car perfect, its drivable now, but not perfect.
