Sudden loss of power steering - Ex35 2008

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Sudden loss of power steering - Ex35 2008

Postby ThomasForelle » Sat Apr 10, 2021 10:11 am

Advice sought! 107K Ex35 - I don't have much in way of surrounding facts, other than it appeared to happen when I broke hard and turned right (having a little fun). Now it's as though there is zero power steering - so, turning at extreme low speed is a lot of muscle work. At zero speed, impossible. I had a week or so earlier added PS fluid at cold temp to the top of the mark. But now, I see that the reservoir is a little bit over the line. Would too much fluid cause this? How to begin diagnosing? Thanks, y'all.

No, overfilling won't cause a complete loss of pressure. It sounds like that's what you have. Assuming the belt is okay and the pulley isn't stripped on the pump shaft, the most likely cause is a busted shaft or busted plumbing inside the pump.
