First let me start off by saying hello an I would also like to thank Nico for making such a wonderful site to chat about our wonderful fair lady Z. Second I want to say bare with me my grammar an spelling isn't the greatest, least that's what some one had told me on a similar form. Any how my Z has a miss an I have narrowed it down to the cylinder passenger side closest to the firewall. While Z is running I took each plug wire off an there was a change in each one... except for one. (While running) I also I put a dollar bill up to the exhaust on the passenger side... It has a suction in one instance - - *- - *- - *- - You get the picture im sure. Also spark plugs are brand new platinum s. My inquiry is this... The Z had set for some time an also the timing was way off when I first bought it.. It ran but with no power, the time was on like 4 degrees but it's on 12 now.. The power is alot better now of course but there is still that dead cylinder.. The plug in the cylinder is firing,I checked it also. It's black though ..

Is there any other way to maybe get the valve to close fully other than tear the head off an replace?

first of all the cylinder you are referring to is #6, and if the cylinder is dead adn the plug is black it's most likely a bad cop, bad challenin the ptu, or a bad plug , you said the plug was firing, how did you verify this?

the old dollar bill test ain't what is used to be, a "H" pipe exhaust and an egr valve kinda effect the outcome

You need to have that cylinder checked for excessive leak down. If you had a stuck valve and it was bent and/or burned you'll know quickly. I've seen it happen before on vehicles with interference engines that have sat for extended periods of time. Even if the cylinder has proper compression and acceptable leak down results, it's never going to fire with that fouled out spark plug.

If it is stuck, you can try tapping the valve and spring with a rubber mallet to break it free.
