Wow,I was on a bridge the other day and Pow! I was a half a lane over the dotted line. I was Lucky nobody was next to me.

Has anybody else noticed the Hobiecat-like wind performance of this car?

I had strong winds on the highway, which is right next to the ocean, if you dont hold the steering wheel real tight it really pushes the car to the side, does lowering it and putting a strut bar help? Also today was raining heavily and the car just felt like a toy on the road, and it felt like it was going all over the place any ideas how to fix this? felt like it was sliding right and left.

i'd say a good tire upgrade with a larger footprint would help the stabilty a bit. i mean, we don't have Geo Metro sized wheels, but we darn sure don't have the wider wheels available on other compacts. i thought it was kinda funny that my previous car ('01 Focus ZTS) had 205/50/16 alloys.

I put 205/70/15s on my 07 hatch @ 700 miles. They very slightly rub the plastic wheel wells in some situations, but you have to get the narrow tread 205s. I got the Les Schwab Toyo Eclipse. Most of the other brands have wider treads, some much wider even though they are the same size rating.

Last night driving on the highway due to a storm we were having strong gusty winds and Pow, I was half a lane over the dotted line. Fortunately no one was there. I was driving around 58 mph becasue of the wind and the car was just swaying side to side. Happened again 20 miles later. I put a fair amount of miles on and I have not had a problem on the highway prior to last night. I have the V around 2 1/2 weeks and have 1300 miles on it.I have seen the postings here and wondered if anyone else changed the tires which tires might fit the best in the wheel well and what were the results.

The drive out here to Florida from California was a pain in the you-know-what. Starting in El Paso I had 950 miles of 25-45 mph gusty crosswinds quartering from the front right of the car. Sometimes it was bad enough I had to drive below the speed limit. The car just wanted to ride the wind toward the center median. Hurt the gas mileage by 3-4 mpg.

I hope it's not as bad on the way home.

Lowering should help - but strut bars will not. Struts are used to reduce flexing of the MacPherson strut towers & the chassis.
