i was driving down rt. 18 the other day and a 240sx pulled up next to me, so i decided to mess with him, i heard his blow off valve so i'm not sure if it was sr20 swaped or he just slapped a turbo on his stock engine ( which is a waste) but to make a long story short i took him (surprisingly) and all i had was an intake. he later told me that he had an exhaust leak. but i dont think an exhaust leak would make that much of a difference?, i guess he just sucked at driving.

First, if he has a turbo on a stock engine, it was probably a pretty fair race.Second, if he did have an exhaust leak, then he was loosing boost. Third, a 240 comes stock with an anemic 4 banger, and I will walk away from any stock 240. Until they have a turbo, they are slow.

^ This is true... Plus big exhaust leaks you can loose a lot of power. I remember when I had a Taurus for some time like 3 years ago and the Exhaust blew off it and I went no where. I was hitting the pedal to the ground and felt like I was running off of 3 cyls..

I had an old Ford T-bird. 2.3L turbo, and had a cracked exhaust Manifold. When it cracked, it lost a lot of power. The turbo no longer got as much flow as she was used to getting.

I can understand how much you guys love your cars. I will always talk smack about everything that is FWD and not a 240. So I'll keep this as non biased as possible.

To say installing a turbo onto a KA24DE(Stock motor) "is a waste"... is the most ignorant thing I've had the pleasure of reading today. We have members making close to 500WHP on the stock motor, head and all. He would have to have been a VERY bad driver to get walked by a semi stock Max.

A 2.4L 4 cylinder by nature has less power then a 3.0 or 3.5. Hello, cubic inches...Thats like me saying the VQ is weak sauce because it makes less power then the VH45. I hope you see my point.

Given the same mods, a 3.0 Max will not walk a 240. Will it be faster, I'll be willing to say maybe. But to walk away...thats just a little exageration.

The stock SR20 (JDM 240 Turbo Motor) can run 10PSI easy all day. So its no contest between the Max and a 240 with the swap done. Give the KA the same 10 psi, well it would simply be unfair. To argue anything else simply goes against physics. Lighter car with more power isn't going to lose to a heavier car with less. Its very hard to give one car a tremendous power adder and then try to compete with without one.

I love the Max, its a nice sedan. If I owned one I'd turbo it in a second. Hell, I'm trying to get Noah to turbo his. Now a boosted Max will give a boosted 240 a serious run. Again, more cubes with the same amount of boost will net more whp. I'm by no means calling the Max a slouch, I'm simply clarifying a few facts.

Flame on...

It also depends on which 240 and which Maxima you're talking about. There is a HUGE variance in power, weight, etc. when it comes to various Maximas. My little VG will get it's arse handed to it by most 240s--even stock KA. The KA makes close to the same power my Max does, but is significantly smaller and lighter.

I need to actually throw the Xterra blower on mine and see what 8-11 lbs of boost can do with that (if my 222,222 mile motor doesn't keel over and die).

Or a remote mount turbo setup man. I could totally get you boosted for under $1000.

240's are probably around as quick as the 4th gen maxima given the same bolt-on NA mods, but if they have a 10psi turbo SR or KA, there is no comparison. They will spank the Max, including supercharged ones.

i was by no means nocking on the 240, i hope to own one someday in the near future. i was simlpy asking how it could be that i took him. i wasn't sure how much of an effect an exaust leak had. but i now know it makes a big difference.
