that y-pipe is not for an 08. I took my car into the shop today for the prototype build during lunch today. I get my car back tommorrow. I have doubts that they can take the prototype and build parts for sale in two weeks. Not to mention my car has not yet been dyno'd for pre-ypipe and post ypipe to show us the gains.AltiCoupeDriver wrote:

Racingline's site says their y-pipe will be available in two weeks, but for $265! . Isn't that kind of steep? Also, I remember the racingline guy saying he could make us an 'affordable' exhaust, but we never heard back from him.
Paging Spockrock!!
Oh, are they just going to take measurements? I hope that's not the price for an 08 either, it seems way out there. If you get a chance try and ask about the price and the emissions stuff, thanks.spockrock wrote:

no sir, they have done that, this time they are building the actual pipe, that pipe will be the prototype, that will be used to make the production parts. I can check about the emissions and pricing.AltiCoupeDriver wrote:

Cool. Thanks. Any new info?spockrock wrote:

The prototype should be finished being built tomorrow! The shop needed some extra time for a pipe that needed to be bent etc etce. I pick up my car tomorrow, after work.EzeebMOS3 wrote:Hey Spockrock, just to confirm....There is a y-pipe for the 2008 Altima coupe 3.5 being made in the near (weeks/months) stage. You said that your car is being taken in for measurements, how long do you think until a product was made? Honestly I wouldn’t mind paying the 295 for the pipe....I just need a performance mod, and now!
Not to mention with the development of this product, it’ll only put pressure on other companies to build a competitive product which might be cheaper; which means gains all around for us customers!
The companies model will be done, and then from that they can make many y-pipes for us allEzeebMOS3 wrote:This is awesome..... Haha im so pumped!
So wait is your prototype going to be done and installed tomorrow? If so you better get vids up! Or do you mean the company's model pipe will be done...
It will remove the third catEzeebMOS3 wrote:This is awesome and can only lead to more companies developing parts for our cars......
Will this ypipe take out all three CATS? or just the third? because the first two have o2 sensors and will cause engine lights to come on, plus i think you need some back pressure caused by the CATS....They should rip that pointless third one right outa there....no questions on that
Cool. I just got a response to an e-mail I sent to racingline.spockrock wrote:My car will be dyno'd then have a production ypipe installed and then dyno'd again. I get a ypipe out of the deal not sure about emissions.
Do you guys know if they check for tampering with cats when you get your car inspected?RacingLine wrote:Legally speaking, it is illegal to remove the factory catalytic converter unless it is deemed defective by a repair facility. That said Our will be offered without cats but with the option to include your choice of either ceramic or metal core cats with the order. The cats are offered at a discount over our retail on the same units, however they will come "uninstalled" and will need to be welded in by your shop. Our primary reason for doing so is the car cats will affect the performance of the ypipe. They will still out perform the stock unit, but maximum benefit is realized in the cat-less state. As well the vehicle will still pass all emission smog tests with the 2 remaining factory cats in place. We have offered these in the past and have never had a properly running car fail a smog test. Whether it was in NY, CA, MA or any other state, even canada. All have passed so long as the 2 cats located in the manifolds are still in place. No CEL/SES issues either.
here is a our dyno of a 6spd maxima with stock exhaust and our y pipe.13whp increase14wtq increase
Let me know if I can assist you in any other way.
Thanks,

So basically it will only delete the third cat which is supposedly insignificant in reference to the cel/ses and emissions. Since deleting the third cat is illegal, they will offer a metal core or ceramic cat that can be welded on if you choose to do so.RacingLine wrote:On the previous gen altimas there was very little audible increase in sound, it was barely noticable. The pipe will only delete the 3rd cat. so your car would still be using it's 2 primary metered cats. Our dyno was done using a car with stock exhaust when it saw the increase mentioned.

If a cat is to be added to the ypipe, a metal core is better. It is more durable and will flow alot more than the ceramic core, and will filter better.
