I have a 2008 G35xS and the shifter is giving me a problem. I got it back from the stereo shop and ironically it has done it even since? I'm not sure if that's coincidence or not?? But anyways when I go to take it out of park i can't push the shift button in? I have to shove the shifter more into park before it will engage. Sometimes I will park and go to get out and the dash will tell me its not in park. So i have to push it up a little for it to make the light go out, including the loud beeping sound. Anyone had this issue before?

Sounds like something is gumming up the works. For the "shove in park" issue I would take the shifter apart and check the appropriate parts. For the button issue I'd take off the knob and see if something is jacked:

^^^ page TM-228...yes, it's for the G37 coupe but the '08 Sedan is the same....or you can look up the sedan FSM

Could the stereo installers have tapped into a EMU harness line that interfaces with the transmission?

I have no idea what they tapped into? They only had to add an amp and wiring so I would assume they tapped into the main power at the battery, then a line level type connection to the amp. unless they used that middle console area to run wires to the back I don't see why they would be near any transmission related wires?? Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately I have seen some bad wiring jobs when people are doing basic stereo work and the Infiniti systems are closely interlinked so I hope they added a line level converter using factory connectors and didn't hack into the actual harness.

I just noticed that the bunny's back. Welcome back Bunnah! You're a good influence on him: he's much nicer with you around. :poke:

Just got back from Infiniti. They want $1600 for a new shifter assy. They said that the stereo installer most likely jammed the shifter out of park or leaned on it somehow and damaged the unit. He said if they didn't know where the shift lock button was located they may have forced it out of park to remove the console etc. Now I have to fight the other place to try to get some $ out of them. This will not be fun I'm sure. If you live in my area do not use Boomer Mclouds as an installer. Clearly they suck. i have always used another shop but I decided to try them this time since they are closest to my work. Talk about regret....

I hope you paid the installer by credit card
Call the credit card company to report what happened.
Get the estimate from the dealer and make a copy of it.
Send that copy to your credit card company along with your letter requesting a charge back on your card for unprofessional workmanship.

Good luck

thats a good idea. I'm headed back to their shop tomorrow to show him the estimate etc. Hopefully they will do the right thing but we will see. I'm sure they could file a insurance claim on their end to reimburse me the money. He is already talking about how Ifiniti tries to change more parts than needed etc though. We wil see. Overall though I need more than the $225 back from the install on my credit card. Fingers crossed!

Stay calm, Ask to speak to the manager. Document notes of who you speak to. If you have a small audio recorder record the meeting.
