So....the family has just recently acquired an 03 Maxima. Everything is great except on the steering wheel there is a little bit of wear, and some kind of gooo that won't come off.

I was wondering if there's any way to upgrade the wheels on these? It already has the audio buttons, cruise, etc... but I was wondering if there's any newer models that are interchangeable. Not really looking for something crazy, maybe just an upgrade to an A34 wheel? Has anyone tried this? I heard the I35s had a heated wheel feature? Kinda cool I guess.

Keeping the buttons functioning is a must, the air bag would be nice too. I've never had a wheel this "modern" off so I'm guessing they're connected via a simple harness? Idk, just thinking out loud here. Any ideas would be appreciated.

:)

I don't know how interchangeable the steering wheels are, but there are really nice steering wheel wraps on eBay that you can get to cover the outer wheel. You can get them in factory colors, two tone, and a couple of other finishes. They're only around $30-40 and they look OEM, they're not like a cheap steering wheel cover you get locally. I'll see if I can find them when I get a chance an post up a link.

Any aftermarket steering wheel will fit, but you said you want to keep your buttons working. That makes it extremely hard to replace the steering wheel. The Infiniti wheel is the same size, but I can't guarantee that your airbag and steering wheel controls will work. I can tell you right now, you won't be able to get heated steering without major modification to the existing wires. They are in a harness, but the clock spring for the airbag will cause this job to be a bit difficult because the clock spring holds the wires in place so you don't tangle the wires and also, you don't want to accidentally pop off the airbag and hit yourself in the face. Anything airbag related will make this job tricky truthfully. Word of advice, disconnect the battery before touching that airbag.

I would probably go with a "Wheel Skin" replacement leather wrap found this link awhile ago in case I ever needed to recover the steering wheel http://www.dccarcare.com ... seem to have lots of options but I think I would stay with the original black leather standard.

You could get the heated wheel stock in a Maxima. I believe it was part of the meridian package if memory serves me right. I was looking into it for mine, then I moved to Cali....

Yeah, I might just go the wrap route. I don't really want to have to d!ck with an airbag.

...and a heated wheel would be kind of pointless here in AZ.
