steering noice

my steering wheel makes this really awful noice when I turn....like a really deep squeak

the car is a 1998 240sx se

Is it a squeak or a clunk? More details are needed.

its definately a squeak not a clunk....Basically whenever i turn the wheel it sounds like a creeky old door in a house....but its only when i turn the wheel

It's probably the column. It's been known to happen on the 240s. They just get old and start making random noises.

oh well too many other things I'd rather spend my money on....hey since you seem to know a lot about cars what do you think would be a good setup for suspension? I'm looking to start upgrading but wasn't sure all that I need or should buy....
