In the last week I've been having trouble starting my J30. Got in my car, started it up.. sat there for about 5 min and had to run inside to grab something came out and it wouldn't start back up. I know about the flooding problem with the j30's and attempted flooring it while cranking it for ten seconds.. it seemed like it was barely getting any fuel. I had recently changed the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs (OEM). So then my neighbor and I deduced that it could possibly be the fuel pump. After replacing the fuel pump I was able to start it, but the rpm's drop and it died. So unless i give it gas the for the first 30 seconds or so while it's warming to keep the rpm's at about 1100-1200 it dies. Once i've held the gas peddle to keep it alive for a while i let go and it'll idle by itself. But then... unless i warm it up as soon as i put it in gear it dies. It also has a hell of a lot harder time trying to start if it's already died once, probably flooding, but even if i let it sit for a bit, still same problem. Wen't to pull codes, the only one i get is 55, everything's all good. Cleaned the MAF sensor, still same problem. From what i've read it could be the IACV being clogged up, but that thing is a pain to get to. Any suggestions?

Battery or alternator quite possibly, does the battery light go on even a little bit?

The battery has plenty of juice. It's getting a spark, and it definitely starts up, it just doesn't seem to regulate the air/fuel mixture well until it's warmed up completely. It's been doing it for a week or so, and the battery is still alive and kicking, once it's warmed up it runs perfectly.

Could it be my coolant temperature sensor?

Since there hasn't been any responses... I decided to go get a coolant temperature sensor. I did notice that the fan is always on whether or not the engine is hot. When I went to put the new sensor in there's black gunk all around where the sensor screws in... lame. Tried the wrenches, vice grips, i was starting to strip it so i stopped. I even tried warming up the car to see if i could at least loosen it while it's warm still not even a centimeter. Anyway i don't even know if that's the problem but the sensor was $3 so no big loss. Does anyone have any suggestions????

Do you have any codes on your ECU? It will narrow down the problem. It will elminate any guess work.

Not trying to be rude but I mentioned in my first posting that 55 was the only code. But changing the coolant temperature sensor did the trick. My neighbor had an impact drill and took it out with that black gunk and all. Good thing I bought two sensors from the u pull it place. The one broke. But it starts up just fine now, now problems maintaining a cold start idle and it doesn't die when i shift it into gear without warming it up all the way. Sucks that it didn't throw any sort of code. Thanks for everyone's help, these forums kick ***!

Ok took me a couple of days but...It was really quit simple, my coolant level was kind of low anyway but i'm not even sure if you need to drain any fluid. But here's where the little coolant temperature sensor is. (The one with the yellow top)Remove the electrical connection and all you need is a 3/4" deep socket to take it out. Just make sure to disconnect the battery cause the fan is right there.
