Like i said in a couple posts, i failed inspection about two months ago (my rejection sticker expired last week ) for bald tires and tinted windows. The tires were taken care of last week after I found a guy who said he will disregard the tints but not tires. So i bought tires and came back, and the mechanic says the owner is in charge of inspection so make an appointment and he will do it. So i made an appointemtn for this morning, and when i come he says that state has been up his as$ and that he can't do it. After getting my hopes up he shoots them down just like that. Although i want to keep my tints, i'm going to have to get them taken off tomorrow, pass inspeciton, then get them back on again (darker than before )

Anyway, my question is has anyone ever taken off tints themselves? I heard it is very difficult to take them off by oneself and it comes off in strips that are very agitating. I might go to a place to get them off and then back on. Would i have to pay for them to take it off if i promise to come back two hours later and pay for new tints? What are my options here? Any input? Thanks in advance guys

I had to remove the tint from my 87 NX SE for the same reason. I used a razor blade window scraper. It was a little difficult at first but once I got started and got one corner up so I could pull on it then it came off very easily.

Make some telephone calls, or better yet stop in and have a face to face chat with some places adn let them know what you want to do. You'll be taken much more seriously if you actually go there in person. You might offer to put a deposit down to show some good faith. You offering a deposit rather than having them ask for one should net you some favour points. Most places in my area that do window tinting remove previous tint as a part of the tinting process (but it may be budgeted into the price for all I know).

There are plenty of places online that walk you through how to remove tint. I've heard trash bags and ammonia are the key to an easy (if somewhat noxious) process. I've got friend that's had a lot of success with using a clothing steamer he bought someplace for $20 or so - I think he said he did his whole car (Maxima) in about an hour.

All this is second-hand knowledge, I've got better things to do with my time and can afford to have someone do it for me, so I let them.

you know you could see what they charge to remove tint, then see what removal and installation costs, then by promising to bring it back, drop a deposit amount of some sort as proof you'll return. I'm sure if there is frequent inspections there is somewhere that has seen your problem before that can help you. You probably shouldn't mention inspection at all because it could be one of those things that they "can't help you with" when you ask about it. Just ask for removal and reinstall, or w/e deal your looking for. I personally would try removing it myself.

Man Burt I feel for you man. 1st problem you should never buy a car with bald tires (you already know you will have a major expense). 2nd you should not have bought that car knowing the windows were too dark to pass inspection. I cant say you did not bring this upon yourself but I wish you well trying to fix it all.

i beg to differ. There is nothing wrong with buying a car with bad tires if your intend on replacing them, and you know they are bad. Brings the price down.....

Ry you have not been following closely he was not expecting that expense to inspect the car. So when he bought it he should have replace the bald tires a month ago. But yes it may help on the deal but you have to use the money to get the tires and bring car up to spec.
