Starter problem?

Hi fellow Nico members,

My 98 Q has developed a new problem. Sometimes when I try to start the car, it won't start, and it makes a sound, sort of a sound when you try to turn the key in an already started car. I have to take the key out, wait for some time and try to start it again, which it does probably after 3-4 tries. I have noticed that this happens more if I leave the key in the open position, but not start the engine. This almost guarantees that sound and not starting engine.

So what could it be? Is it the starter?.

I hope my description of the problem makes sense!

Your probably right about it being a starter.
