well I just did a JDM motor swap into my 90 standard g50 after the last motor dropped a rod bolt. Here are my problems.1st brake peddle has no movment and therefore the brakes will hardly work. You push the brake peddle and it moves maybe 3/4 of an inch and feels like you are pushing on solid ground.Well while I was testing the brakes ability to hold the car still against the power of the motor in gear I appearently screwed up something else. Now the transmission pattern is all screwed up. Neutral is a forward drive gear, reverse sems to be neutral park seems to b neutral also. The car also will not rev past about 2500 3000 RPMs in any gear. What the hell have I done. Trans got drained while out of the car and I added a cooler and refilled it with M1 fluid.

Any insight to what I have doen would be nice.

Well the trans worked yesterday and the brakes did not. While trying to figure out the brakes the trans got screwed up. Brake booster line was inspected and removed tp check everything and all seems well.

Could overfilling of the trans cause it to act up? There appears to be some blackish liquid coming from the top of teh transmission. What the hell could that be?

Yeah I think the trans is done. I drained my brand new fluid and it is the worst smelling thing that I have ever had come out of a car. It is also very dark which is not good seeing as how it has all of 1 mile on it.

Brand new fluid is never less than bright pink and not burnt smelling.

Something is very wrong.

You might just try doing a full mechanical flush until perfectly clean, maybe its not completely beyond help?

Well i drained and refilled it and its still nasty. Without reverse it will be hard to drive it much of anywhere to get a flush done. I suppose I could tow it and have it doen but then I will most likely have to tow it back. I am fairly certain that it is shot going by the way the rest of the car has been cared for.If I rebuild it is there anything I should look for when getting it rebuilt? Anything particular about thats transmission?

Nothing except that the best course of action is to get a remanned one from Joe, it will endup being more reasonable in the long run because they last a LOT longer (IE as long as OEM) and will probably cost as much as a rebuild anyway...

Aren't Joe's rebuilds roughly 4k? Surely I can have one rebuilt for less than that. I would assume that as long as I keep the fluid and filter fresh I would still get a reasonable life out of a rebuild.

Joe's reman would be ~$2200 shipped to you, with a $400 core credit when they receive the transmission.

The crap shoot on used/rebuilts is the install time/labor. Speaking from first hand experience, and buying a used from a NICO member's private stock of sapre parts. You need to decide how long you want the car to last, then go from there.

Local rebuilds that replace all the parts that Nissan replaces with their quality will cost more, and be performed by less experienced technicians.

It is not only life of the transmission, but quality of operation also.

JATCO the transmission manufacturer built a special USA reman factory in Tennessee to supply just dealers.

The dealer supplied remans automatically come with a remanned torque convertor AND a valve body remanned in Japan which means a new solenoid pack.

Many times they come with brand new planetaries which are equal to the cost of the transmission alone.

Local shops cannot compete other than just slapping in a $300 soft parts kit and hoping it holds together.

Many shops [including T3] just buy from dealer [$1900 with wholesale discount] and markup.

We charge ~~$2600 installed.

Some buy JDM takeouts and are lucky, some go thru many before they find a good one........................US junkyard units usually have too many miles.

JATCO supplies Nissan , Ford, Subaru, Jag, and others they make multi dozen models.

Few auto manufacturers have made their own trannies for the past 15 years. They leave it to specialists.

I drained the fluid agin today and strained it as I dumped it into a giant drum. There were a few black chunks of what I assume is friction material. Would this be and reasonable assumption?

Back-flush the transmission filter with gasoline before and after chemical flush. I've documented this in a few threads.
