Well i'm doing my swap this week end, and Ive ran into a small problem

The Manifold hits the cam cover, so I was wondering if it would be ok to cut a small peice out of the cam cover in order to fit the manifold. I've added a picture and circled the part that would be slightly cut in order for it to fit. Did anyone else run into this problem? And what did you do? thanks again guys!

locate the part of the manifold that hits and pop it with a ballpeen hammer to create clearance.

Yeah, I had that exact problem. I think it would be okay to grind off about 1/8" there. There is nothing structual about that piece.

I've heard that some people have this problem and other don't. Mine is VERY close, but not touching. I'd either grind the valve cover, or dent the manifold.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure its safe to grind the valve cover in that area.

I'm taking pics of my swap so once its done I'll post all the pics. =)

I think I'd try fitting 2 sets of gaskets first

one set blows out easy enough, two wouldn't last for long.

Alright im about to put the ca into the car, but ive ran into a problem. If you guys notice in the first picture above, there is no engine mount brackets on the block! Has anyone ran into this problem before? (i really dont know why my ca didnt come with those brackets.)

I've tried putting the KA24e brackets on, but the holes dont seem to allign on the CA. Does anyone know what should i do now? Is welding the bracket on a smart idea? or does anyone know where i can get the CA brackets?

Thanks in advance =)

just use a bolt in the side of the head (where the bracket would be...) its a light motor.

Nah man, he's talking about the motor mount brackets.... not the hoist bracket.

Haha i was going to say, just a bolt?

Well thanks guys but I think I solved this problem, I used the "search" button and found out that you would need to get 200sx brackets. So I went to the junk yard (30 min till they closed) and pulled the brackets off of a 200sx. So now im about to go put the motor in LOL hope i dont run into any more problems! (i'll keep you guys posted).

haha reading > me

hope you grabbed a 200sx motor mount too! The 200sx bracket bolts to the block, and the mount fits the s13 crossmember, but you can't use an s13 mount on an s12 bracket! (does that make sense, lol)

I couldnt get the 200sx mounts off the car in the junk yard (i couldnt get a good hold of the nut and didnt want to strip it) so i left it there and just took the engine mount brackets. when you say you cant use the s12 brackets on the s13 mount, do you mean they wont fit at all, or you'll need to do some modifications to make them fit?

The engine and my car are preped and all ready to go into the car. I'm about to put the engine in today. I guess I'll see what you mean about the brackets once i attempt to put it in.

I mean they won't fit at all. search for the thread about using CA18ET brackets. I drew a picture of the difference...

ok I read your post about the mounts and looked at the picture you drew (its really helpful). I just have one question, can you use the ca18de brackets off of a Pulsar? (and would they work with the ka mounts?)

OK so now the engine is sitting in the engine bay, and everything is about 80% done. Just have a few electrical problems.

1: the fuel pump isnt coming on, and i checked the black w/ pink stripe wire (fuel pump relay) and it seems wired right.

2: Is there a plug that goes into the oil pressure sender (near the oil filter)?? I dont seem to find any plug that goes in there, is there one on the main engine harness or the lower harness?

3: For the O2 Sensor, do you just need to hardwire it to the ecu pins 29, and 115? I can't find the plug for this either.

Well thanks alot guys, hope i can get this problems solved, so i can have my car up and running

1.Print of the pages of the FSM regarding the fuel pump. Start from the pump and work backwards (that's how I always troubleshoot anyway) checking for voltage. You can bypass the relay by pulling it out and then using a jumper to short the wires together. Don't short the wrong ones or you'll burn up the ECU.

2.Yes. It's on the lower harness. Single wire. White IIRC.

3.I don't have the FSM on this comp, but if you don't have a plug/wires for it, then you can just hardwire it to the ECU.

ok I got my engine to start yesterday! =)

For some reason when i went to rewire the fuel pump i checked to see if it would come on, and it did. So I guess maybe something was loose. Anyways the engine idles pretty good (around 900 rpm's) then i heard a vacuum leak and I plugged it and the idle went down the drain (about 200-450 rpm)......

I'm going to hardwire the knock sensor, and adjust the timing on the CAS (because i removed it and put it back without really setting the timing). so i hope one of these will sove the rough idle problem. But other than that and the engine mounts, everything went pretty smooth! Wiring was pretty simple, and instal was straight foward. I'll let you guys know if my idle problem is fixed after tonight. (cant wait to take her out on a test run). i still have to fine tune the VPC.

Anyways, does anyone have a pic of the vacuum lines? I cant really understand the FSM.
