Hey guys. For the past 2-3k miles, when I mildly apply the brakes they squeal at a high pitch, while the car is moving at crawling/ 5-10mph speeds. This started at first what seemed like the rears, and now I'm sure the fronts are doing the same. It's a smooth continuous sound (not like the warped rotors that go squeek-squeek-squeek) almost like a whistle.

This happens 90% of the time when the car is first started and I drive for a few minutes around stop signs etc, or after I've driven on the highway for a while (i.e. cold brake surfaces?) and come to a halt. I searched and didn't find a topic on this here.

Anyone else have this issue with their Coupe? I will be taking it to the dealer hopefully this Saturday. With my luck the brakes won't squeel in front of them... Is this a symptom of some real trouble or just shoddy brake rotor/pad quality? I don't believe my brakes are warped because it still feels very smooth.

The only thing similar to this was with my '00 Dodge Neon, the original OEM brakes warped and squealed much worse, starting at 11k miles.

Im in the same boat.. I have almost 13,000 miles as well, and my brakes squeak.... But I have attributed the brake wear to very hard racing like braking conditions from my trip to the tail of the dragon last month, but maybe these brakes on the coupe just get a lot of bad batches

Wither way, Im definitely getting some better pads, probably HAWK.

Anyways, usually these sounds mean that your brake pads are starting to wear out....

take a look at your brake fluid, I bet its low.....

Hmm I'll definitely look the brake fluid level. I drive 90% on the highway ... that and none of my other cars have this issue happen in 5 years... So do I blame Nissan or the quality or random chance?

Definitely was not looking forward to this kinda crap from my Altima in less than 5 months. Yah I'll not be getting OEM replacements that's for sure, if I can help it. My dodge never had brake noises ever happen again in 100k miles after I replaced thsoe POS ones from the factory... maybe it's the same thing.

Man I keep losing faith in Nissan quality with every little thing I see over time. Hahaha.

well, take it to the stealership, see if they will replace the pads or whatever for free, considering the age/mileage, then if they wont than you say no to oem and yes to buying better stuff

Haha yah that's what I'm thinking.... though don't they cover the brakes for only 12k miles? Just my luck by the time I'm getting around to it it's past 13k.. and I KNOW they'll snake their way out of a warranty if they can...

Let's see. Fingers crossed, hoping I don't lose faith in Nissan. Right now I would seriously rank them somewhere a hair above domestics... with all the stories I hear of people getting screwed by Nissan and their dealers and the cars' quality..

I'm at 20k miles and have had this issue for as long as I can remember having the car. It seems to only make noise when I'm first driving at a slow pace. I believe it's due to the brakes being cold. After driving for a bit, slow or fast the noise is no longer there.

So you have the exact same symptom, once the brakes heat up the noise is gone.

Well looks like this is a more common issue than I thought. I believe it is not something I should have to live with.. considering I paid good money for a car from NISSAN and not GM...

I'm at 15k miles right now actually (not 13k... I have bad memory sometimes), I REALLLLY hope the dealership is not gonna shaft me on replacing the pads or whatever it is. You'd think more people would come forward and NISSAN fixed this in the newer model, and covers this in the warranty, because if they are worn out already from highway driving, that's totally ridiculous.

mine does it too, 12,2xx miles. only for the first 5 min or so of driving then stops. I'm not reallt gonna worry about it until it starts doing it all the time. anyone have any idea if there is a set amount of time before changing the brakes or just when they start to make more noise?

Nope it's freezing here, 30 degrees, haven't had the courage to pop the hood and poke around. I'll get to it this weekend before handing the car over to the dealer to look at. If nothing else I'll get new pads, but I really don't want to be spending $100-$200 if I don't have to.

You're in Arlington? Lewisville here. Maybe we should both go to the same dealership at the same time complaining about the same thing, haha.

Haha was gonna say what's up to you myself.

Yah I'm in Arlington. Not many of us VQ Coupes around are there? I've seen maybe a handful of VQs out of the already few coupes out there. Haha.

Don Davis Nissan on I-20. I'm going there tomorrow morning. They *usually* do take care of me and the family's cars, god knows they're getting 3-4 cars oil changes and maintenance done there (yah big money eh? hehe).
