Houston we have a problem! I have a Beautiful 1987 300zx that I just bought. It is not the turbo but n/a. Last night I was stuck in the snow and had to rev it up to get free. I maxed out at about 4000 rpms, after I got on the road it ran fine for a couple of minutes. Then it began sputtering and eventually cut off. The temp gauge went a little wacky then stabilized. I sat there for a few minutes then started her up and after a little with some coughing she began to run OK good enough to get home. This morning the same thing happened after about 20 min on the highway, she sputtered out. When I started her up again she ran rough the rest of the way to work. Upon arrrival there was a slight burnt smell, but not too strong. I just changed the oil so that's not it . Any suggestions are appreciated.

Moved.

And as to your problem, is your coolant topped off and circulating? Take the rad cap off, then start the car. Check to make sure coolant is flowing through the radiator. If not, that is most likely your problem. If it is, however, I'd turn my attention to the coolant temperature sensor, as that's been known to cause some wacky things to happen on a VG30(D)E (or any motor, for that matter). Who knows, though.... May be a compounded issue. The guys here in the Classic Z tech forum will probably be able to help a little bit more on the subject matter at hand.

start by checking the ecu for codes, this could be the chts issue it might simply be flooding after warm up as it still things it's cold, you cna verify thsi by unplugging the chts and see if the behavior changed, if it does not then it's likley bad
