Not related... if you have bad knock sensors the ECU goes into "full protect" mode anyway. I think he's talking about an internal knock at idle, not spark knock...

I'd sure take a close look to make sure that your problem is really a knock. I once had a noise that sounded like bottom-end knock that turned out to be debris in the exhaust rattling at a certain RPM.

I think you'd be better off with a take-out engine - if you're having this kind of problem at 120K that engine has been badly abused.

Welcome to NICO!

I'd run a search on NICO - there are a few threads on this... The general consensus is that you'd be better off with a Japanese take-out but be sure to replace the guides, hoses, rocker cover seals, etc. before installation.

Determine which rod is knocking by using Consult to shut individual cylinders down. The change in sound and doubling the sound.

Never seen one knock at 120k but always a first time......measure the hot idle oil pressure and report [>14 psi?].

Come down to Atlanta and we will introduce you to the local Japanese engine warehouses..........where you can see what you are buying [for $1500].........you might pay Byron $100 to help you select the best looking one and take it home.

We could pull the valve covers and examine and change the plastic valve guides out and R&R the engine for your install.......the actual swap takes 25 hours [$1750] once R&R is complete on the newer engine

Be very careful about who does the engine work, as many don't do the days of R&R on the newer engine..........when you spend $1500-$2,000 on a Quality takeout that is only the begining of the extra $3,000 in work.............a quality total job should run around $5500.

Hard to find low mileage well maintained engines on Ebay at a reasonable price delivered.

Infiniti owners are faced with a delimma. For instance, in your Q's case, where could you spend $5500 to get one of the finest production cars ever built? However, all good things must come to an end. :(

Where's forecast? Isn't he in Louisville? He completely rebuilt his VH45DE, but he might not be willing to do it in winter in an unheated garage again.
