My 95 Nissan pickup's speedometer works sometimes. Mostly, it starts not working at all and catchs up after driving for a while.
I already gave a look about this problem. As far as I understood, if the speedometer and tachometer are not working, and I have not an engine light or code in the computer, then the problem is not the speed sensor but the speedometer itself.
I'll hope I go it it correctly.
If this is correct, then I have a BIG problem, because if the issue was the speed sensor, I can buy new ones from $80.00 up to $130.00. The work is disconnecting the hardness, unbolt the sensor, replace them and voila! problem solved.
But, apparently the issue is the speedometer itself because no engine light came On and no codes shown in the computer.
Here is when my tragedy starts. The used speedometers online are sold by stores with tens of complaints by costumers, and who knows if the vehicle's mileage -from which the instrument is coming from- is the correct one.
My question is, if there are new aftermarket speedometers that can be adapted in my truck. I won't mind to pay full price for a new instrument, because I think that will last a good mileage before failing, while buying a used one with more than 100,000 miles -like my truck- probably will be gone soon...and I might have to buy another one again.
If a speedometer from a recent year fits in my truck and can be bought new, I will buy it as well. If the whole instrument cluster from a recent year fits electronically but I must have to modify the cluster panel, I can do that as well.
The point is that since two hours ago, after checking for some temporary solutions, I already have started to hit the dash in order to make the speedometer gauge working back when I drive. I don't know how long this troglodyte style of fixing the speedometer will last, so, if you have any suggestions, I will consider them with all my heart.
