Speedometer issue

1997 Nissan Hardbody D21 pickup 4x4 2.4l. - Here is the issue. The speedometer stops working, mostly during acceleration or when coming to a complete stop. When it stops working,I reset the trip meter and some times the speedometer will work for days.other times for only a few miles. Anyone ever have this problem??

POP the cluster out and check for connections on back make sure they are in good and not oxidized, that would be the first easiest thing to check for intermittent stuff.

I thought of that being it is an intermittent issue. Whats puzzling is that when this occurs the other gauges work,which makes me think it is the speedometer. What I am trying to decide is,do I remove the cluster and check the plug and if everything looks good,do I put it back together and roll the dice. - OR as long as I have the cluster out replace it. Whats frustrating I drove over 100 miles today and the speedometer worked perfect.

May be dusty / dirty or need oiled.

i have he same problem, when i called nisssan in portland,me they said they no longer made the dash cluster, also they said that they may be able to get another speedometer head but the printed circuit board may be out of reach

I believe it. I went into the Beaverton dealership to get a new speedometer needle on my 89 and they kinda laughed and said I had to buy a new cluster. I don't remember what my cost was but I can live with the bent needle.

My take is they priced themselves out of their parts.

New to the hardbody & in love with this Lil truck. 96 xe 2wd st.cab auto. Hey everyone my speedo falls or doesn't pick up when i take off. The odometer sometimes acts almost like it's skipping, not wanting to gain millage. Smack of the dash usually gets it going. cable or cluster?? Getting parts for this thing SUCKS!!!

Speedo head is shot. 96 didn't use a cable, all electronic by then.

Piece Inside cluster i take it? New cluster right? Did bucket seats &35% tint over last two days. Much improved
